Not a day for polar bear research. Waiting for weather on the shores of Hudson Bay. The nice thing about polar bear research is that we can only work on sunny days without drifting snow (or we can't follow their tracks).

Doug Ford tries to bullshit his way through his decision to buy a $29M jet to 'get to the north' when only gravel strips exist in the real north and a jet can't land there

I guess she doesn't realize that the US anthem is sung at every Canadian NHL city when a US-based team visits.

Diet & Prey | Polar Bears International The polar bear’s main prey is the ringed seal, which they catch from the surface of the sea ice

Polar bears have evolved to prey on seals; they depend on the high-fat blubber they provide. A thick layer of fat helps keep the bears warm in the Arctic & helps them survive when food is scarce. Given a jet can't land on gravel strips, why does he need a range of 7400 km to fly where he wants to go in Ontario?

Elizabeth May: "I just read in The Guardian that the big oil and gas companies are making $30m [*an hour] because of the wars. So why are we deciding to get rid of the excise tax on gas instead of an excess profit tax on the companies that are raking in the dough due to war?"

ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE.

what a total failure here. Many (including me) fought hard to see strychnine banned.

This is disgusting.

Paper in C F-N a few years ago looked at use of strychnine to poison wolves by MNR (L&F) in 1950s. Lots of non-target animals killed.

Ffs. Even Ontario stopped using strychnine to poison wolves after the 1950s bc of kill of 'non-target' species like ravens, bald eagles...

Bad immigration economics assumes every extra person is one less seat. Good economics notices they also bring a seat, a side dish, and demand for the bloke selling drinks.

The first story is fear; the second is how economies work.

Liberal arts degrees have long paid the worst salaries—but Microsoft chief scientist says in the age of AI, they will be ‘really important’ for Gen Z | Fortune Move over computer science, Microsoft exec says liberal-arts degrees now teach the skills Gen Z needs to land jobs in the AI era.

“Metacognitive skills will be very important—flexibility, adaptability, experimentation, thinking critically, being able to challenge things…“For that, a traditional liberal-arts education is really important.”

All of Doug's moves have been thoroughly thought through before implementing. Well, except for this and removing EV chargers, cancelling wind power projects, lowering university tuition rates, outlawing speed cameras, giving inside information to his real estate buddies, etc., etc., etc.
