I'm still hoping they have to fill the stands with inflatable "love dolls."

I doubt that many conservative evangelicals have ever READ the book of Revelation themselves, let alone engaged with it in the context of first-century Roman/Jewish/Christian politics. Cults tend to get their "truth" from the Dear Leader, not from their own lyin' eyes and minds.

Trump warns Tehran ‘more to follow’ after strike destroys Iran’s largest bridge Eight people reported killed in attack on newly completed suspension bridge after strike splits structure in half

Smells like the unpopular Current Occupant is trying to goad Iran into launching a terror attack against the US, in the desperate hope of swinging public opinion over to his side. I think the Iranians are way too smart to take the bait.

My dream is that he starts construction on his ballroom, of course choosing a contractor who promises to build it in 6 months and kick back 25% to him. 2 months in the foundation fails, the building collapses, and all that's left is a corner with the words "ONALD RUMP ALLROOM" in the marble.

The world turning upside down is a helluva pivot, but here we are... I first came across this idea in E. J. Dionne's Clinton-era book "Why Americans Hate Politics." It explained a lot then, it explains a lot more. And I don't think we disagree on anything more than interpretation of words.

When you said "Satan's App," I thought you meant the app he and his son use to keep track of their porn viewing.

The ones who should be throwing a fit over Orange Nero putting his name on currency are the evangelicals who love the Book of Revelation. The whole "number of the beast" thing refers to Nero's image and name on currency, which made commerce into idolatry. But... they don't actually READ the Bible...

New ownership and no audience. Sounds like a sure-fire formula for success.

Trump's been describing CBS and CNN as "failing" for years. With their takeover by Trump-aligned billionaires, it looks like his prophecy is finally going to come true.

By the dictionary definition that a "conservative" is one who prefers slow change and seeks to preserve the status quo, Democrats are now "conservatives," as they are trying to preserve Social Security, Medicare, the environment, health care, civil rights, etc. The Republicans are the radicals.

Impeachment? Nah, not gonna get a big enough majority for that. But... the Dems can make him the lamest of lame ducks, until he quits in frustration to go play golf... only to have the judge in New York hand down a prison sentence for those 37 felony convictions.

They're definitely not interested in governing, but I think that's because they're all (from Orange Nero on down) performers who can't tell the difference between a TV show and reality.

If they were serious (or competent) about being kleptocrats, they would have stolen a LOT more.

I look forward to a World Cup final in which visitors are so concerned about tRump's secret police that the organizers have to order 50,000 inflatable "love dolls" to make it look like there are fans in the stadium.

Can we send our “conservatives“ there? (Sigh) I remember when “conservative“ meant “someone who wants to conserve our natural resources and beauty.” Y’know, like Teddy Roosevelt. Who was a Republican (shaking head sadly).

With the tRump clown show running this, our astronauts will need Chinese visas when they arrive.

On the plus side... going off the air entirely is probably more ethical journalism than turning into a clone of Fox News.

"More than a few of the stories in this series started with some half-baked inspiration I stumbled upon when scrolling."

My problem is signal to noise ratio. Before Meta broke FB Purity, I found a reasonable amount of inspiration inside an acceptable amount of crap. Now it's almost all crap.

"Lawyers for Meta and YouTube denied that their apps are purposefully harmful for young users."

Of course, Dracula can deny that he's purposefully harming his victims when he sucks their blood--he's simply seeking nourishment, just as Meta and YouTube are simply seeking profit.

The only reason the AIPAC-funded candidate won in my district is that she was running against four more progressive candidates. Had the progressive vote not been split in this manner, she would have lost by a substantial magin.

The odd thing about Niagara Falls is that the best view of the American side is from Canada. So is the best view of the Canadian side. And the Canadian Rockies are indeed incomparable. Colorado's mountains may be bigger, but Canada's are more mountain-y.

Of course Markwanke called Rand Paul a "snake." It takes one to know one.

‘That’s why we wear USA’: US players embrace military ties before WBC final against Venezuela The US will play Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic on Tuesday, a meeting that comes after recent tensions between the two countries

After reading about their attitude toward the upcoming game (see attached article), I think I'll be rooting for Venezuela.

Yeah, I stopped reading "gift" articles from WaPo when Chef Bozo started demanding an email address.

Anyway, the answer is either "Epstein" or "he's nuts."

I believe it was Jerry Weinberg who said "it's not the event, it's how we respond to the event." I have no fear of LLMs themselves, but I am terrified of how people are responding to them.

We humans are too damn good at making idols.

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal - Sci fi Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal - Sci fi

This is EXACTLY how chatbots work. Any "intelligent," "conscious," or "unexpected" behavior exists somewhere in the training set, and is, in some context, the most likely response.

Godzilla started out by torching a refinery and he's a walking flamethrower. Why does the Japanese army think he can be pushed around by burning gasoline?

I wish Sven could get hold of what I think is Honda's strangest Kaiju (even stranger than "Godzilla vs. Hedora"): "Dogora," about a giant space jellyfish that eats coal and diamonds. It's more like a jewel heist caper movie that happens to include monsters than a regular kaiju.

Sven's email says it's because of "contractual obligations," which probably means Toho is restricting where MeTV is allowed to show the movie. Over-the-air and cable on the North American continent, OK; streaming and Hawaii, nope.

I fully expect them to roll over and play dead when Trump comes for their guns... which, if he achieves his goal of becoming a dictator, he will. He won't need their support anymore, and can't risk their opposition.
