Birthday today. Man I'm gettin' old.

Like yeah, I could do it since I know my politics aren't odious or offensive or anything, but I really don't feel too enthused about having to explain how universal healthcare is totally realizable to a guy who thinks people without jobs should die.

I'm so lucky my mom started liberal and became more left over time. Though, I imagine my pop only went further right since I stopped talking to him altogether. Ah well, it happens I suppose.

I try not to talk about politics IRL with people I don't know just because I don't feel like it.

All good nights end with me inside someone else and I'm not particular on how that manifests.

It's a struggle primarily because identifying who's apolitical from who secretly has politics so ghastly they'd rather pretend to be apolitical is genuinely a task in itself. Usually they're stupid enough to give the game away pretty quickly and not waste too much of your time but who knows.

Definitely true. Either because they're trying to retain a thin veneer of decency or because they're doing it from an American lens where our center is actually just like, mid-right.

That's a fair take, and maybe I worded it poorly. My experience with them is that they'll usually acknowledge suffering and admit it's bad whereas your average conservative will just say "Palestine deserved it FAFO" or some shit like that.

So there's something there capable of being made better.

Oh and to add onto this, apolitical people are in a weird area where they do experience empathy but they aren't motivated by it. No real reaction to misery. Instead they're driven seemingly by apathy until personally affected by X problem. They'll change their mind, but only when it's too late.

Socializing an adult is extremely fucking hard and you can't spur someone to deeper thought if they think it's "woke" or "soy". I'm ready to just acknowledge that these people are, overwhelmingly, lost causes and wondering what you even do about that sort of problem on this large a scale.

I already knew conservatives lacked a base, fundamental level of empathy and critical thought but over the last few years I've come to the realization that they'll never develop it. I always wanted to believe otherwise but... nah man it's just true at this point.
