Last night at my public library board meeting, we got lectured about our (lack of) morals during public comment, but we also gave the okay to use the library parking lot as a weekly mobile shower spot for the unhoused.
I'm proud to support my library in giving out smut and showers!
the thing about this is that adding AI capabilities fundamentally changes the product that was purchased. it's a new feature that may include new licensing and further tech reviews.
it adds an administrative burden to libraries, thay we cant opt out of.
it was a simpler time.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I just peer reviewed an article and spent too much time verifying that the references exist & were referenced accurately, all while being paranoid that the article was written by an LLM. it's not worth the effort. And then i see this kind of slop getting published and i wonder why i even bother.
"Make people dependent enough, and then make it shitty"
Still giggling at this hilarious video from the Norwegian Consumer Council "A Day in the Life of an Ensh*ttificator" which seems a perfect embodiment of Silicon Valley and tech generally these days

Print newspaper spread from The Onion amd a cup of coffee. Newspaper shows headlines like "CIA under fire for arming group of rowdy 7-year-olds" and "The Onion's Exclusive Interview with Jd Vance."
☕️ & 🗞, a great way to start the day. @theonion.com
"That said, if you still don't believe anything is happening, you can run the edge of the blade under water or scrape it over some cut citrus, at which point the blade's vibration will atomize nearby liquid into a fine mist. " Intrusive thoughts about my thumbs. I ❤️ a sharp knife, though.
I just read the description of how the knife works, and I can't stop thinking about accidentally touching the blade while it is on.
I just finished all 21 seasons of Grey's Anatomy on Netflix. AMA
but instead of widgets, it's slop.
Floral cross stitch, black cat on a blanket , TV on in the background showing the medal ceremony for team skating.
Cross stitchin' with a cat on my lap, watching the Olympics is my preferred way to spend a Sunday.
The intoxicating smell doesn't match the taste.

Five years ago I could have asked Google for this kind of information, and I would be able to find the actual info.
my kids have no idea how awesome Google used to be.
Its so shitty now. the search engines feeds us slop and tell us to enjoy it.
They desperately want it not to be 'what a search engine plus a normal brain can do in 5 minutes that they are trying to make us forget what a search engine is or that a brain has a memory. I love the 'ratings' bit--ratings from where?
Grey's Anatomy would never!
Thank you for sharing this. I wasn't aware of this grocery store, but I read the article and watched the video, and set up a recurring donation, all because of this post.
JFC, I've watched enough spy shows to know that this intelligence shouldn't be shared.
Do it like Wikipedia and crowd source the curation. Let's go!
You also call your kitty googly eyes? Here is my Pee Wee, aka Mr. Googly Eyes.
This is so cool and it makes me think about all the un-digitized information out there that wasn't pillaged by AI web scraping bots.
Doing the lord's work! Thanks #MLAUXCaucus!
The citation catastrophe: Propagation of AI-generated counterfeit citations in scholarship

A+ librarian research. Slop citations having real citation counts in Ggle Scholar is bad. So many use Scholar as their only source of info, but the pool is full of piss.
B. Next semester needs a clean slate.
Black kittens are special. 🤩🖤
Small black cat, asleep, curled up on my legs. Christmas Tree in the background. Looks cozy.
