It says a lot about how deeply American voters, particularly Republicans care about The Troops beyond slogans that they had 4 legitimate shots at electing a 'Nam Vet President (Gore, Kerry, McCain x 2), rejected all of them, smeared them as treasonous pussies and elected this fucking guy twice.

Indeed. Complaints about redistricting are invalid. Republicans did it everywhere and invalidated a Constitutional Amendment so they could do it on explicitly racial lines.
There are two choices: use the same levers of power as Republicans do, or let them win. There is no "principled" opposition.
They think you're stupid.
Yet again I remind everyone (as Elizabeth does in her very next tweet) that "foreigners are corrupting our pure blood with weakness & disease" is Fascism 101. Not some variant, not some metaphorically similar thing, not some echo -- the thing itself.
The year is 2026, I'm donating to Infowars and reading Bill Kristol content π½
This is good news and tremendous work from Stephen & others
But what a pathetic way to write the nationβs safety lawsβa few hundred old men that nobody elected, huddled together in a Connecticut hotel and moaning about how the public is sticking its nose into things
There is a moral & economic imperative for cities (& state legislatures) to fix this btw.
Politicians cannot claim to be environmentalists, care about housing, be seen as budget hawks, etc if their city or state makes it easier to build the drive thru instead of the housing β¬οΈ
Why do I want the highest political body in the land to be an opaque cabal where I cannot understand who or what is being discussed and what the actual opinion of the Justices are, why is that a desirable system, exactly
The TV switched over to a 'Two and a half men' rerun right at kickoff
Packed house at the Tavern β’οΈ, from corner of the pub under a TV
@jbriggeman.liberalcurrents.com pulled me out to 'the game of the year' to watch how the pros do it.
Was able to score us the worst seats in the house 25 minutes before kickoff #arsenal #epl
Link the mug!
One lot in Windsor Park turns from one unit to two units (multi-generational now!).
This is the figurative infill density that was laying on the ground until housing leaders like @zoforaustin.bsky.social @kristaforaustin.bsky.social @paige-ellis.bsky.social stepped in. #atxurbanists
Itβs inaccurate to say Mario is brave and Luigi is cowardly
Luigi is afraid of death, so he runs away from danger. Mario is afraid of living, so he runs towards death. Both brothers are cowards in their own way
Tax law scholar Lawrence Zelenak observes, βApril 15 can and should be as important a civic holiday as the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Together, the two days celebrate the fulfillment of the two great responsibilities of citizenship.β The filing of the income tax return offers an opportunity to mark this achievement. Riffing on Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.βs famous quip, βI like to pay taxes. With them I buy civilization,β Zelenak calls for greater recognition of how filing an income tax return constitutes a βPurchase-of-Civilization Ceremony.β
Happy tax day! This should be a civic holiday, we should have a parade and give out taxpayer awards.

anyways shout-out to this fantastic essay that really clarified for me why conservatives are continually driven to conspiracy theories, not as an accident or a side effect, but as a structural result of their ideology

βBeyond the basic fiscal math, it is counter-productive to liberal goals to indulge the anti-tax politics of the right. (. . .)If we believe that the government can and should improve the lives of its citizens and the world, it can only do so with the collective buy-in of taxation.β
I suspect the Pope sounds "woke" to many Christian conservatives because the US is steeped in prosperity theology, where the point of worship is to deliver health and wealth to believers. Thus, "feed the hungry" and "show mercy for the poor" sounds needlessly political and "woke."
Utter decadence (and racism) to crater the population and economic growth engine that is immigration.
As the US faces a growing demographic cliff, we absolutely need more immigration to help keep social security better funded.

everyone involved in the dismantling of USAID should be forced to spend their lives watching graphic videos of what they have subjected people to in their callousness, clockwork orange style

This is one of the best explainers Iβve heard about anything, let alone the current chaos.
I will never ever have either the factual understanding or the Olympian detachment required to analyse these things calmly and not just fucking ululate with rage. I have no clue how they manage it.
"This is not who we are" should always be understood as an aspirational statement that carries forward the legacy of countless Americans who fought and died to make it as true as possible, to create the space for you and I to take up the rallying cry.
Nate very close to getting it π€
