The symbol on the banner they presumably spent money getting specially made is also rather telling: its not just "we removed the bike lane“ but also implies "we stopped/beat the cycling“.

Walking and wheeling in Low Traffic Neighbourhoods: A mixed methods study of mobility aid users’ interactions with changing public spaces Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) seek to discourage car use by making vehicle journeys more circuitous, and to make active travel journeys safer and more pleasant, thus improving public health. Debates on Low Traffic Neighbourhoods often focus on disabled people's experiences.

In a new paper led by @ersiliav.bsky.social and @tricyclemayor.bsky.social, we use videos/interviews to explore the impacts on disabled people's everyday walking and wheeling.

As part of our NIHR-funded 'Travel Well' project, we are advancing this measure beyond London and to incorporate estimated traffic volumes and average speeds. But we'd be really keen to hear from anyone with ideas about how else to improve this tool!

We have created cyclability scores for every postcode in London. The scores reflect main road infrastructure, access to services, cycling facilities, neighbourhood roads and green pathways in the immediate area surrounding each postcode.

Whilst we couldn’t compare changes over time for this study – and so cannot establish causality – we did find that Londoners are more likely to cycle if they live in better cycling environments, even when taking account of demographic and other environmental factors.

We also compared these scores with survey data on people’s travel behaviour, and found that higher cyclability was associated with a higher likelihood of cycling in the past week/year.

We use data on main road cycle infrastructure, neighbourhood roads, green pathways, access to key services, and other facilities such as public bike pumps to calculate the cycle-friendliness of areas around each postcode.

Our new paper (with @jwfurlong.bsky.social and @rachelaldred.bsky.social) out today calculates cyclability scores for every postcode in Greater London, revealing a lot of variation across the city.

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?

A cyclict comes turns out of a modally-filtered side street in London whilst a black car is driven past on a main road.

*Our new LTN paper out today*

Do 'boundary road' junctions with minor roads get safer when minor roads are filtered (i.e. closed to through-traffic)?

We tested this using police-reported casualty data (2012–24) from 113 London Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) introduced between 2015–24.

Our paper (@davefev.bsky.social + others) out today shows London LTNs have led to est. 613 fewer road injuries (-100 Killed or Seriously Injured).

No significant impact (with benefits for cyclists/motorcyclists) on boundary roads.

A horrific image of a someone who seems to have his hands tied behind his back. A big cat (the predator kind, not the overfed pet kind) has jumped up at him and is devouring his face. Blood splashes on the floor.

For Blue Monday we can't think of anything more appropriate than this charming depiction of a man getting his face eaten off by a leopard.
