This my non UK friends is a traditional British dish called 'Toad in the Hole'. Don't worry, no toads were harmed 😅 Sausages baked within a Yorkshire pudding batter. I was gonna use Bratwursts but then it wouldn't be British lol. Serve with buttery mash, peas and onion gravy yummy! 😋 #ToadTuesday 🐸

Yes. I’m not saying one shouldn’t say “YES!” necessarily only that someone being into you is sometimes communicated implicitly (or not even implicitly really, maybe by her throwing herself at you!) whereas people can say “Yes” with reluctance, or when feeling under pressure. That’s all.

Well let's see how this strategy of telling "white liberals" to "fuck right off" works out in the local elections

I suppose I’m just complicating things by saying that explicit consent can be given begrudgingly (“Oh I might as well say yes”) and implicit consent given very enthusiastically.

I was thinking about how you consent to have your data used when you access a website — but at the same time you don’t. There is formal consent but not a mutually reciprocal relation between me and the website. There is formal consent but in a context of unequal power, that is.

Yes I see what you mean. I’m obviously not arguing against consent, which would would be horrendous, but saying that most consent is often non-verbal. I don’t think many people say “Is it alright for me to have sex with you now? I need you to say the word “yes”?”, their hands meet on a table.

The Sweetest Girl (2001 Remaster)

The title was originally in quote marks. Singer and songwriter Green Gartside wanted to combine French poststructuralist philosophy and pop, both ironically deconstructing and taking playful pleasure in the pop song. You could only do this for a few years in the 80s.

Feminists have made this point as well. That consent does not equal enthusiasm, that formal consent can be given without true mutuality. It’s complicated.

Totally. I’m really saying that it’s not enough. Her eyes should be lit up, all that stuff.

Over 18 months as PM. Has collapsed Labour's polling share from low 40s in early 2024 to high teens now. Policy agenda remains unclear. Has fired 2 chiefs of staff, 2 cabinet secs, 4 comms directors, head of FO. Poor relationship with Cabinet and MPs. But somehow this is social media... 🤔

I find the whole “no one could last a whole term as PM now” argument so tiresome. I do think the information environment encourages impatience in supporters, but I think not lasting a full term after winning 411 seats would ultimately be on him

I just think if the government was to become this unpopular this quickly, they might as well have done it by increasing taxes on median+ earners.

its genuinely validating having lived through the aughts and 2010s tech boom when these brands were the pinnacle of human employment to see how far down the misery index they've fallen

‘Consent’ can almost suggest a reluctance, a giving in to pressure — reinforcing the status of the woman as gate-keeper who has to say a mere ‘yes’, no matter how reluctantly. The barest of minimums.

The only problem I have with formal ‘consent’ is that it’s a very low bar (some of Weinstein’s victims arguably contractually ‘consented’). In an ideal situation, there would be such obvious informal mutuality that the question of “will this women concede me access to her?” wouldn’t even occur.

I’m taking this guy’s point to be that women are shallow, consumerist bimbos. And yet he’s clearly a yuppie in a house full of mod-cons posting on TikTok while looking like he practices quite the grooming regime.

Kinda fascinated that Jackson achieved such a level of postmodern iconographic status that even (highly convincing) accusations of pedophilia haven’t foreclosed a hagiographic biopic.

pet theory I have is that this is partly down to financialization of everything. same reason why house flippers pick bland, lowest common denominator paint colors and fixtures

Monogamy has become the one moral issue that unites the country—and it signals the limits of Americans’ individualistic priorities, @faith-hill.bsky.social argues: theatln.tc/rgBn47SS

Feels like what's happened over the past decades is the unholy alliance of capitalists and religious fundamentalists have realized that the more people are immiserated, the more susceptible they become to reactionary ideas. Factions who shouldn't be allies find out they have perfect symbiosis.
