This all comes just ~1 month after unhoused residents on the North Side faced eviction from nearby Legion Park on a bitterly cold morning.

Crane picks up unhoused resident’s belongings for disposal
Activists and witnesses claim the grounds for removal were incongruent and conflicting reasons were provided in the lead up to a crane dramatically picking up and disposing of residents' belongings.
A Chicago parks notice of the off street cleaning left in the park prior to the cleaning
Cops and parks staff supervise the impromptu sweep
Chicago Park District workers and cops supervised what was announced to be the removal of “belongings obstructing the public way.”
These cleanings are designated for the removal of improperly stored items—NOT the same as encampment sweeps.
In Chicago today—what was supposed to be a simple off-street cleaning at Eugene Field in Albany Park turned into an encampment sweep that lasted for hours.
City workers destroyed two unhoused residents’ belongings and shelter.
"Ope we bombed a wedding...well, we got SOMEONE right? Cool let's move on" has been US foreign policy for more than two decades.

Even in my community, as these daily abductions keep happening I try to warn my fellow immigrant friends and coworkers but they get quickly dismissed, because it’s not a raid in the neighborhood.
So we now live between fear and blissful ignorance, and I’m not sure which one is better.
The issue most non-immigrants, & establishment politicians had with ICE’s terror campaign was the optics.
It is easy to be vocal and oppose to an abduction the abduction of a worker outside a house and tear gassing in an affluent neighborhood. It will gather support rather quickly.
But what now?
Going to go on a rant here for a second…
This is the scariest point for me, which is the normalization of ICE activity and the desensitization to these abductions as they happen more sporadically and at lower profile.
Last year was a mess, it created a spectacle, but now it’s just everyday.

Just posting this photo my friend took of me and I think it’s kinda dope

Happening now in Cicero just outside Chicago—
A growing crowd is gathered at town hall this morning for a No Kings protest to many honks of support.
Big anti-ICE themes here today as this is a community that has been heavily targeted by the feds—including kidnappings in recent weeks.
A couple hundred neighbors and families marched around Independence Park in protest of Trump this morning before many headed to the Loop.
There was one solitary pro-Trump guy there with a “Latinos for Trump” banner.
A protester asks him why his sign is plural when he’s all alone.
On the ground @ Cicero!
And that TSA agent….. Albert Einstein
This is just one example of how the feds have been completely disregarding any type of safety measures in their unhinged campaign against our communities and neighbors.

Who would have thunk it?
ICE killed Silverio Villegas González 4 months before Good & Pretti. No officials in Illinois are doing things like this.
The city was notified of the temperature considerations but decided to go through with the closure and sweep today regardless.
These sweeps destroy communities formed out of necessity and just pushes park residents to other nearby parks without addressing any underlying issues.
For context:
This encampment closure was done under the excuse that the residents would have housing provided for through the city.
The process of relocation was sloppy, and devoid of any type of consideration for the needs of the residents, such as location etc.
March 17, 8:15 am, Legion Park - Community members gather to support the residents of Legion Park, which is scheduled to be sweeped by the Chicago Parks District at 9 am. Residents of the park are gathering their things in 15 degree weather. Many don’t know where they will sleep tonight.

for the best conglomeration of local police to protect a murderous army of federal agents, look no further than the unified command of broadview, illinois.
I hate this man so much
“To be free, one needs to be feared”
He said the quiet bit out loud.
Countries need to either have the power to blow up earth or be bullied into submission.
I guess we’re just going to have to get used to this type of escalation, and maybe start stockpiling potassium iodide pills.

The first Fight for $15 action I covered was in 2012. Critics at the time bemoaned how it was "too much" and "unrealistic." It wasn't enough then in many places, and 14 years later most of the country still doesn't even have that and it's nowhere near enough to live on almost anywhere.
