I metered for box speed of 200 and all mine were very dark, Of the ones that even produced an image, If that helps.

I believe it's just any sufficiently bright source of light, And of course if the film has an anti halation layer it would need to be a brighter source.

You definitely can get a sense for when it will rain from the smell of the air, Its weird.
The one time I diddint trust my smell and decided to stay out I got rained on.

I could see it being do-able for some of the Pentax cameras, theres an addon to swap the loading door for some electronic one that adds the date to the film, An entire back dedicated to digital photos seems plausible.
Just yeah, Not very mass marketable ig.
