Bricks are a higher upfront cost, but lower maintenance costs can make up for it—besides, they look nice!

I'm blown away by the support for trans people within Minnesota as we push our party to Do Better. I refuse to let this be quietly pushed down and hidden in the name of "unity" or "civility." I am not making myself smaller to appease a transphobic few.

Anyone have information/photos of the flood this morning on 5th ave and 7th st SE? Curious what happened or if this is a recurring issue.

Last I saw it looked like they might be using this model on University Ave through the UMN camps.

I actually volunteered to help with my ward convention this year and was looking forward to it. I ended up not being much help, in large part because there was no one who could teach me what I needed to do.

I am incredibly honored to be the DFL endorsed candidate for Minneapolis Mayor. This endorsement is a message that Minneapolis residents are done with broken promises, vetoes, and politics as usual. It’s a mandate to build a city that works for all of us. fatehformayor.com/donate

Xcel has an electric heat rate, which is a pretty good discount. It’s a bit finicky to enroll, but do some research and give them a call.

Oh the lengths I’ll go to for just one more block on the Strava heatmap.

Rolling out of Minnesota towards Pittsburgh on the Amtrak. Is this what it feels like to be a taconite pellet?

My research with the SEA Lab on wave-powered aquaculture farm siting has been published in Renewable Energy! Our analysis found several trends, including decreasing costs in areas with better wave activity far from shore, and the importance of identifying conflicts with existing ocean activities.

The free lead test kits from @cityminneapolis.bsky.social are a great service even if they take awhile to come back. The test for my apartment in Southeast came back undetectable, or less than 1ppm.

My main takeaway from today’s City Council meeting is disappointment in my councillor’s inability to understand Robert’s Rules.

The Act 10 protests in 2011 were my introduction to political organizing. So while the national outlook may be bleak at the moment, wins like this and others in Wisconsin give me hope.

Today, after a long fight, Uber and Lyft driver pay raises go into effect. I am proud to have led the fight against corporate lobbyists and for the workers of Minnesota!

Maybe an example of the internet trying and failing to recreate the experience of a third space? I love a casual and speculative chat, but with friends, not a podcaster.

For me, framing hydrogen as storage, rather than energy source, has been helpful. And it helps people to not fall for the glossy renderings of airplanes strapped to big tanks of re-arranged natural gas molecules.

Meredith Angwin | Substack Former utility chemist. Current author and advocate.

Though stubbornly contemporary, Shorting the Grid is perhaps the most accessible explanation of energy markets I’ve seen.

“The grid is becoming more single-fuel, more vulnerable, and more expensive. Insiders make the rules… the public cannot participate in a meaningful way.”

Chris Wright, An Unapologetic Energy Humanist, Will Be The Next Secretary Of Energy For the first time, the DOE will be led by someone from the energy sector.

Bryce misses basically every problem with naming a fossil fuel executive to be secretary of energy (e.g. climate change). But sure, maybe the engineers needed a win.

My landlord unfortunately fixed our most recent maintenace issue before I could take him to court. Anyone have suggestions for good code violations to get them on?

Anything, as long as I’m not subsidizing someone else’s parking spot.

COP 29 is the most recent example of climate debt being passed off as generosity, but I’ve seen it at the local level too in my work with home energy upgrades. If the only way to justify funding is an ROI, it’s probably not sustainable, financially or environmentally.
