I maintain a dozen lists of English-speaking businesses. I list a few hundred businesses in total. I use the Google Maps API to spot places that closed or moved. It automatically verifies each place every 6 months, and I just need to approve the changes.
It barely uses AI: I use a tiny LLM to extract values from text, that's it. When a value changes, a constant gets updated in the code, a change request is submitted, and a human has to approve it. There are no unsupervised changes, and all the content is still written by a human.
AI on All About Berlin? Yes, but not like that.
I am releasing a tool that updates the website when certain facts change. If the minimum wage goes up, it updates it everywhere on the website. (1/2)
The Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge reached out to get my input about an information portal for immigrants.
Berlin's SenIntMig also consulted me about a similar project last year. They're announcing it on April 29.
It's good to see that people care.
I'm updating my cannabis guide. It's crazy how much has changed in two years. Cannabis clubs barely exist, but the grey market has exploded.
How do YOU get weed in 2026?
The April 2026 newsletter is out! Public holidays, cherry blossom, labour rights, ADHD, and a few UX improvements.

I really like how those yes-no lists are turning out. They make the information much easier to read at a glance.

I'm adding "yes-lists" and "no-lists". It makes the guides a little easier to skim.
Yup. It opens the full-sized image
Facts about the Fiktionsbescheinigung:
1. It's not a permit, only a confirmation. Your expired residence permit stays valid anyway, even without a Fiktionsbescheinigung.
2. You are entitled to one. The LEA is breaking the law when refusing to issue them.

I'm rewriting my ADHD guide, and I'm awed by ADxS.org. It's a website about ADHD in Germany. It's insanely thorough, translated in English, and backed by a vibrant community. Oh and it's also ad-free and AI-free.
True! I got better at spotting those. The worst part is the government websites. They love to randomly move pages around without redirects, and to hide value updates in a yearly PDF.
I'm building a tool that monitor specific pages, and updates All About Berlin when the facts change. It will track things like BVG ticket prices, tax rates and the minimum wage.
The goal is continuous, automated fact-checking of the content.
It's nice to revise old guides and realize how much my writing has improved in 8 years.
I am working with an independent insurance broker to simplify and improve my Haftpflichtversicherung guide. What would you like to ask him?

Which one do you prefer? A or B? The differences:
- Hierarchy instead of flat list
- Shorter guide titles

1,000 responses! 🎉 We've never had this much data about the Berlin immigration office.
To celebrate, I have redesigned my LEA wait times page. It's less cluttered, and it combines citizenship and residence permit data.

The LEA is issuing residence permits as stickers instead of plastic cards, citing budget issues.

Do you know any interesting places in those areas?
There is a link to instructions for that in the guide. Most calendar apps already include a public holidays calendar.
I updated my public holidays guide. I automatically calculate the dates and highlight those that fall on weekends.
I also clarified how public holidays work for part-time workers. After all, this year's focus is "labour and tenant rights".

The Berliner had a few slip-ups like this. I usually refer to RBB directly, but my audience is English-speaking.
Next Monday (February 2), the BVG is striking. Plan your travel accordingly!

Good news! German courts rule against profiting from subletting. This might stop people from holding onto apartments and charging subtenants a massive premium.
