- still titanic brained rn so I ALSO just learned if they had run into the iceberg straight on it would have been a disaster but the ship would have stayed afloat.

but consider there was another ship closer who turned off their radio at 11pm and didnt know what the fireworks were all about

-since the ship was dubbed "unsinkable" people didn't take it seriously when it stopped and something was wrong.
-the lifeboats weren't even entirely full

- they went full speed the entire time even though they received warnings about ice burgs
- The Californian ship had urgent warnings that were ignored by the radio operator who didn't realize the importance of the warnings, so those messages didn't make it to the captain

I went to the titanic exhibition in town, and it was great. I also amazed at how cursed the voyage was from the beginning.
- an officer was dismissed and took the key to the binocular case with him
- they didn't bother doing any safety drills and only had half the lifeboats needed for everyone

Spoiler: you're going to lose people along the way in this trauma recovery journey. And that sucks.

But it's worth it to not lose yourself. Not anymore-- not ever again.

Trauma Brain is bullsh*tting you about how the things you do well or right are "random," & the things you struggle w/ or regret are the "real" you. Your strengths are as real as your vulnerabilities-- & none of it means you're "defective."

It ALL means you're a work in progress.

This is such a little thing but it floors me every time someone comments hateful shit on the ONE (1) ingress page where I say “please donate to minnesota” with a bunch of racist lies without realizing I literally had guns pointed at me for being a witness & that we’re still seeing random abductions

It's not weird that, after decades of managing your emotions-- keeping your head above water-- that you let your hobbies & interests & passions slide. Remembering & rediscovering them in trauma recovery is remembering & rediscovering you.

That is: a high recovery priority.

That people pleasing reflex isn't you being "weak," or even a "choice" per se. It's the tip of the iceberg of the "fawn" trauma response, which has its roots deep in our sympathetic nervous system-- but which can LOOK like a "choice," or even a manifestation of our "personality."

i feel you, puzzles require brain work. i do enough brain work at actual work. i just wanna kill

You do not have to conquer every trigger or trauma response you experience w/ elegance & charisma. Are you kidding? Just get through it. That's the goal. Get through it without kicking the sh*t out of yourself. Anything beyond that is gravy.

This isn't ballet. Just get through.

An old, wizened rat in a tattered rope blinks his shining red eyes. Above him is a news headline that reads "Major Tesla Investor sends Elon Musk DOGE warning" and below that, a snippet from the article reads: "Tsai, an investor manager whose firm has pumped millions of dollars into Tesla, told the guardian that, "Musk's Political foray has sparked a negative response in the markets." This quote is in a word bubble, the rat is the one speaking.
