Born to unknown parents in Swansea, Wales, Emrys Shepard spent his early life in underfunded orphanages before being relocated to New York, aged 12. [NOTE: Many agencies responsible for relocation were later subject to trafficking allegations.]
Upon arrival, Emrys 'slipped through the cracks' with a fellow orphan, and began a life on the streets. Supported with camaraderie from the local homeless, Emrys kept himself, and most younger kids who flocked to him, alive, whilst establishing himself as a part of the gang the 'Tenth Street Reds'. These skills later flagged him as an exemplar enlistee when he applied to join the Alliance Navy, aged 18--despite being functionally illiterate and undereducated.
Emrys is described as a maverick and a soldier whose sole focus is survival--a trait that came to fruition on Akuze, and secured his place in the N7 program. Emrys specialises in tech, hand-to-hand combat, and marksmanship. His temperament is a brash mix of ruth and ruthlesness, with a propensity to punch up and help down.
Whilst he thrives in high-stress situations, multiple psych evals report a concerning refusal of leave and a seeming lack of personal life and hobbies unrelated to work.
