I've never used that fix, but from what I have heard this mod is vastly less grabby on cartridges than blinking light win.
100% Thankfully a lot of this stuff is repairable. Getting to know how these older systems work is super rewarding.
The new system with this drawer is so much better. Sliding action with magnets. The hinging mechanism causes a lot of the issues.

Does your NES not play anymore? Grey screen or flashing power light indicator? Likely means the cart connection is bad. I recently replaced my cart drawer with the Nin10 drawer. Its like brand new. It feels great, its over engineered like crazy, and super easy to install.
