Left-YIMBYism, like Mamdani's, is going to win.

Chromosomes stuck behind the spindle are ticking time bombs for aneuploidy. We uncovered a mechanical rescue mechanism where microtubule pivoting repositions these high-risk chromosomes! Out last week in @natcomms.nature.com, here's a thread 🧵

This coastal Californian visited Montreal in the dead of winter and loved it, I could totally see moving there and learning French. Amazing food. And the music... youtu.be/0Ssi-9wS1so?...

The funny thing about these politics is that they say "there's no solution to housing problems, vote for me!"

Molotch: “A wonderful contribution to urban political theory as well as a concrete guide for how to exploit new opportunities for moving urban America forward. . . . Santa Cruz becomes a laboratory for understanding how to take and hold power, and for seeing what local power can and cannot do.”

This seems far descriptive of reality than the "growth coalition" theory that I first encountered in a local history, The Leftmost City. It also aligns well with Adkins' et al The Asset Economy. Rentierism is by far the dominant force in my city. whorulesamerica.ucsc.edu/santacruz/Th...

“No for-profit company could possibly withstand all the false leads required by that process,” he recalled telling them, “all the weird, random science that never panned out.”

Super grateful for this piece highlighting the threats to this country’s biomedical research infrastructure

I'm open to Yee when the pool is so uninspiring, but Yee's stance on weak housing stances are untenable. California is pricing out so many people with lower incomes, and that's the core financial flaw of the state. If she could adopt Mamdani's policies I'd be a lot happier.

You can always tell when Russia is scared about the status of their genocidal invasion, because they activate ludicrously false propaganda pushes in US media.

Russian lines are breaking for the first time in a long while, so Foreign Affairs is publishing Michael Desch carrying water for Putin.

Thanks so much for showing up, Alfred! So many that wanted to be there are unable to show up in an age when refugees with proper legal status are still being detained and deported.

‘My duty is to call it out’: Judge accuses Trump administration of discrimination against minorities The Reagan-appointed judge ordered the NIH to restore funds for research related to racial minorities and LGBTQ+ people.

They give away the game when they make up a straw man of people thinking "it's a sin to be white" because when they get power their intention is to make it a sin to *not* be white, or Christian, or whatever.

Even Reagan judges call it out: www.politico.com/news/2025/06...

Person A: It's unfair that you are paying far less in taxes than me for an identical home.

Person B: But have you considered that I hadn't been underpaying for just one year, but many years?

Indeed, my only surprise is that in silico tools would drive the drug program. I've always seen new structure data be combined with these tools.

Really? That's great to hear. Do you mean the protein structure alone, or pose estimates? Though I've seen pose estimation and binding affinity prediction (Boltz) used for guiding screens, I hadn't heard of individual predictions being strong enough.

I see a lot more crystal structures and cryoEM experiments to validate the shaky hypotheses that AlphaFold-alikes generate. Nobody is launching a new small molecule drug program on the basis of AlphaFold results, but they may do a ton of physical experiments because of them.

Almost no one does, which is why we are in this mess. The documentation in the Epstein emails is a good chance for us figuring out why Ukraine needs to win, but every day here is filled with so much corruption and tyranny that it's hard for the story to break through.
