I thought the Tory schools minister who had views on how long division should be taught was the low point.
But no, here we are.

Oh no. She was completely out of her depth too.
She had a simple job on appointment: prepare the plan for government. And she did nothing.
She was positioned as a Whitehall guru when in reality she’d never really run anything. And anyone with even a passing knowledge of government knew that.
We were talking about this just this evening!
I am really not averse to this message, but it does seem particularly focused on the belief universities = “the humanities” and i dunno all those courses which are far less disputatious are getting bundled in - should I be offended on my accountancy course?

Especially helpful in a world where they’ve fired all the journalists
We may have found the one (1) consequential act of Simon Case
This is what the Coop reckons is popular…
The first and most important step when using an oven is to preheat all the pans you store in there to 425.
Aww James never listen to the people on Bluesky
It it another great example of weird distortion in the economy.
Can’t afford housing but got enough money to get a Sausage and Egg McMuffin delivered
What fascinates me about this phenomenon is: where do they get the story?
Is this people in the Trust whinging to the Telegraph (odd)? Or do Telegraph staff trawl the internet to find it (even odder)?
You can see property, you know what it does, and everyone alive today has seen a property market appreciating in relative terms their entire lives.
Share prices wobble around for seemingly magic reasons (and ofc fair number of economists agree that share valuations are not especially rational…)
There’s also just a basic mystery to the stock market, not helped by the investment industry itself.
My aunt, for example, has shares as a result of my late uncle’s investments. She’s terrified of ‘doing the wrong thing’ and losing money.
Property, on the other hand, seems to make sense
I’m baffled* at how he continues to make his grift as guru work when he’s repeatedly demonstrated to be a dolt
(*I know why it works and it’s just endlessly depressing)
I mean, of course we were all excited by the internet after Al Gore invented it.

Excellent choice
Yeah but how’s he supposed to know things if no one tells him? No other way of finding things out.
We all have days like this
And tbh the right has opened up a ton of nasty stuff that looked settled…in a way the left just hasn’t.
It’s exactly this. They’d be much happier if they were actually mean poorer
‘Oh it’s become a thing. Shall I mention the overriding the vetting thing to anyone so they don’t say anything stupid?
‘Nah. I’m sure no one will claim it was all fine to Parliament or anything.’
‘Should I tell my SofS that this incredibly high profile appointment is super high risk?
‘Nah. Unlikely to ever be a thing.’
Which suggests to me that it’s not a slam dunk solution to arresting the decline of city centres
What I also find interesting is the examples of density changing over time - inversely proportionate to economic activity.
I can’t comment on cities in the north of England, but looking at Swansea for instance, density has increased over the last twenty years, while econ activity has declined
Quite. An odd choice for someone with his experience not to refer to the politicians. But who knows…

Fascinating paragraph from Scott Alexander, where he admits he’s the dog that caught the car
Enjoying the new feature where, to see a post, you have to open it twice. Makes sure you really want to do it.
Ah but if it doesn’t exist, you can’t prove you’re *not* a member when they throw you out
