Cosmic/eldritch horror only instead of the Them hating or being indifferent to humanity, they *love* us. & not in the obsessive stalker way, but more like beloved pets. An ant farm or bowl of sea monkeys. It *loves* us in unknowable & madness-inducing ways.

In the endgame, with towers stacks to the skies!
Dear assistant also played Wandering Towers, which was immensely enjoyable! If only that Black Keep would stop running away…

Elizabeth, the woman running the playtest
Our dear assistant helped playtest Curse of the Dead Man’s Hand, by Stardust Publications (early version on DTRPG). It was quite fun, though definitely a 3-6 person game.

Good evening, esteemed colleagues!
Once again, the hallowed academic conference @acadecon.bsky.social is upon us! Unfortunately, your faithful correspondent is a touch under the weather, so I am unable to be there to present my findings in person.
As consolation, we have a salr for the duration!
We fully approve
Even when using a module, don’t be afraid to toss in random elements! Often you’ll get deeper, more engaging gameplay.

Sometimes best sidequests are completely unintentional. I used heavy thunderstorm to keep the PCs in place for a bit & when they tried to leave anyway, turned it into a flood. They still went out, went thru town looking for ppl to help, & found an NPC that they’re going to adopt.

Itch.io is one of our major sales platforms & this move by Funko is both ridiculous & yet another condemnation of AI.
Brindlewood Bay is a good one if you like cozy mysteries/cozy horror. It’s designed more or less like a series of 1-shots w/ same characters. Think of a session as an individual episode in a TV show w/ a larger over-arching plot. Like Murder She Wrote in the USA or kinda like Miss Marple.
I can give you some other systems you might like to look into if you’re interested.
D&D is the 800 lb gorilla in the room, but by no means is it the only, or even necessarily the best, game in town. Mechanics differ. Focus differs. Genres differ. Find the one(s) that work for you.
It is somewhat harder to find groups for non-D&D games, yes, but not impossible by any means.
I have a slight ulterior motive since this is an indie publisher acct, but don’t be afraid of looking for other game systems as well! There are A TON of differently focused systems/games from space opera to hard scifi to westerns to horror to relationship dramas to period pieces, etc.
My local in-person gaming group scattered to the winds when COVID hit and online gaming is what kept/keeps us going strong.
Spokesdog Starsky went to the groomer today & is all spiffy, ready to give moral support for any #HappyHolidays #ttrpg games you want to play! Tell us about your #HolidayCheer one-shots!

A table standee holding a laminated card with the Dapper Bear logo on it: a circle containing a stylized headshot of a grizzly bear wearing a bowler and bowtie. The entire logo uses only two colors: a dark brown and a lighter brown.
A table covered in numerous clear-topped boxes of 16 6-sided dice. Each set has a different coloration scheme such as pink and white or red and orange.
A group photo of 4 people having just run and played a game of It Came From Somewhere Else, including the human representative of your fine correspondent. In order from left to right: a young white man in a black hoodie, a young woman in a long-sleeved pink shirt with a baby blue logo on it, a middle-aged man with a full beard wearing a green shirt with a stylized dragon in yellow in it, and a middle-aged man wearing a red shirt and a brown jacket.

And now, as your faithful correspondent has returned home from @acadecon.bsky.social, he has many fond memories to share of frivolity and fun. Until next year, gentlefolk!

Your dear correspondent, Dapper Bear, just finished a session of The Zone by Laughing Kaiju Games. It was delightfully surreal, deeply symbolic, and satisfyingly thematic for each character. He greatly looks forward to playing it again!

Our dearest Dapper Bear is attending @acadecon.bsky.social again this year & have left our mark (politely, of course)! Have a good weekend!

Your friend Dapper Bear has had an excellent & fun filled time of board games and RPGs all weekend at @acadecon.bsky.social, although sadly he neglected to bring his bow tie & couldn’t enter the costume contest. Thank you all!
Our final game of the @acadecon.bsky.social weekend is complete. There were… *some* survivors of the werewolf attack in Howlers!, including our much appreciated returning players, and even the dead had fun getting there!
