When Terry Pratchett died it struck me that our door to the world inside his mind was forever closed. Other people could write Discworld books of course, but they would be their own interpretation - not bad but inherently different. I realised each human mind is a unique, limited resource

but it does make it feel harder to even engage in fandom when you know the people driving the discussions are paid to be there

(and it should make you wary of what other discourse is being generated by folks paid to do it! you can bet music isn’t the only place this is happening!)

can’t even say i even blame the artists for it. if labels aren’t hiring agencies to do it, they’ll usually just make the artists do it themselves. and this push wouldn’t have worked in the first place if the music wasn’t good

i’ve loved geese since projector, but i feel like the story here is less “critically acclaimed indie band are industry plants” and more “ad agencies are making stan accounts to try and drive engagement, it’s getting harder than ever to recognize organic movements online, and that’s kinda scary”
