And then I have to go back to pick up my passport.

Man what an ordeal. 😭

Then I need to visit a BĂŒrgeramt to move my permanent residence permit from my old passport to new passport.

More money for the appt and a photo. And then another 5-6 weeks without my passport. Then I’ll get a new plastic ID by mail (current PR is a sticker).

Reason for rejection? There’s a PDF you have to fill out and print. I’d signed it electronically and they required a wet signature.

Fine, resubmitted. Should get the new passport within the next 3 weeks but the nightmare will be far from over.

Renewing my Canadian passport has proven to be a journey. I submitted my new application in March and it was rejected. They mailed it back to me without using registered mail and it was just left in my mailbox.

British people often ask me what life is like in Germany. It's like this:

It’s soooo good. Season 2 is also great. They have created something very special in this show. And wow, coming to love Noah Wylie even more and more as I learn more about him.

“It’s a couple of things that work beautifully in concert. First: no music. Audiences are so sophisticated, but what they’re not accustomed to is not being told how to feel,” Wyle says. “You take all that out and it forces a level of engagement where you’re now looking for clues within the frame of the screen, which forces you to look up from your phone. And I think that is extremely engaging, especially to young viewers who aren’t accustomed to being asked to participate in a nonpassive way in the viewing experience.

“Second point, shooting it with almost exclusively 50-millimeter or 65-millimeter lenses, which is the most comparable to the human eye—and only shooting from the point of view of a human being that’s present in this space. There are no cameras on gurney wheels going in the hallway. There’s no cameras on the ceiling looking down from a God point of view. You are limited to the perspective of a participant. You can look away, but you can’t leave, and it becomes an endurance test for you to stay on your feet as long as we’re on our feet. Which [brings me to my] third point: real time. Real time has an aggregate sense of tension that you don’t get in any other form of storytelling. What happened before is happening now, and these two things are going to add up to the next thing. And if we throw more ingredients into this cooker and keep ratcheting it up, it’s going to pop.”

Wyle makes eye contact for his next point, delivering it with a Robby-esque matter-of-factness. “Fourth point: The election went the other way,” he says with a shrug. “We could have been a really good show with a lot of nice things to say in a perfectly normal Kamala Harris universe. And instead we became almost a beacon of hope and humanity in an alternative universe. But in the midst of that, fifth point—this is essentially competence porn. You’re watching really smart, dedicated people do what only they know how to do at a level that you don’t know how to do it, and you’re so fucking glad that they’re there doing it, and compartmentalizing their own stuff to put your broken pieces back together. You’re so reassured by knowing that there are people out there that laugh and joke and have the ability to lock in like that.”

Internal company tools like Slack or Teams, Confluence or Git, are just becoming repositories for AI slop.
Like no one writes their own documentation or announcements anymore.

This week in Germany:

→ Taco Bell is opening in Frankfurt, Stuttgart & Cologne 🌼
→ Free health insurance for spouses isn't gone, just €225/month now
→ Union Berlin hired the first female coach in European top-flight men's football
→ The wolf that bit a Hamburg woman has been released đŸș

Someone on LinkedIn told you to never use a two-column CV because ATS will lose it forever. They were wrong.

In Germany, two-column CVs are often the standard. Also, recruiters always see your actual document. The fear-based advice is creating unnecessary stress in an already hard job market.

This is the massive turnout for last night’s “anti regime” concert in Heroes Square, Budapest, ahead of tomorrow’s crucial Hungarian elections. Tens of thousands chanted “Russians go home”. #Orban

My god. Whoever designed ELSTER is at the top of my enemies list. 😂

Just submitted two forms to the Finanzamt and even with ChatGPT to help, it was a hellish experience.

Even Chat said, ELSTER was "designed to break your spirit".

It was right.

Thought the same! It’s like when Russian men started fleeing when Putin started conscripting people a few years back. European nations weren’t rushing to take them in.

So according to Canadian media, Canada is discussing conscription too. So not an option,

I know you are joking, but what makes you think they will want to take in people from the very country threatening their sovereignty?

The hate on the US by Canadians has never been higher.
