…and that would suck, wouldn’t it?

I worried about what happens if there’s a surge of water in this area.
The dumped items will become a Hoover dam.
You know, things might seem bad right now, but at least Lyse Doucet hasn't turned up with a film crew.
“New York’s Cutest”: whatever one thinks of his politics, Zohran Mamdani is a genius-level political communicator.
And I've just updated the story about the overnight incident in light of this police statement about Kensington Gardens: www.mynewsdesk.com/uk/metpolice...
Yet another incident overnight: as.ft.com/r/7be9d6a3-c... Counterterror police investigate fourth incident claimed by Iran-linked group
It is extraordinary to me how little the current Green Party seems to care about environmental issues, at a time when geopolitics is making many of the arguments more favourable.
Man goes to the doctor. Says he feels sad and depressed. The doctor says "This will cheer you up, I have just committed a crime that is so brilliant it can't even be solved by the Great Detective Columbo." The man says "Just one more thing..."
And here's a news story from earlier today about what's going on in Kensington Gardens, which have been shut while police examine "discarded items" after an apparent attempted attack on the Israeli embassy: as.ft.com/r/3bdafb2b-3...
Wondered what was going on with this sudden rash of arson and other attacks and attempted attacks on Jewish and Iranian dissident targets in London? Wonder no more after reading my just-published analysis: as.ft.com/r/1514450d-9...
I think there was a general urge to do something daring and bold to address people’s feeling of helplessness in the face of all the problems.
Appointing Peter Mandelson was daring and bold.
Supermarkets: "So you'd like us to cut margins for farmers further? We can try..."
Also, to judge by the experience of the Westminster government's efforts on fuel, there is the risk of infuriating the supermarkets, which are important businesses and whose help one might like in other policy areas (like promoting healthy eating).
But the piece about the police was also, arguably, worth reading.
Time to break out my favourite ever Viz strip.
They didn't get the pronunciation from a Scottish person, though. That's for sure.
My Hungarian is rusty. I think the last word should have been “megjavulhatja”.
I used the Hungarian order last night when writing in Hungarian: bsky.app/profile/repo...
In Hungarian, yes. But my advice was meant for English language broadcasters.
Note to broadcasters: “Péter Magyar” is pronounced “PEYter MUDjur”.
Americans quick to shriek that Magyar is a conservative might want to sit this one out and just let Hungarians celebrate tonight. Promise you Hungarians from the LGBTQ community who voted for Magyar know, and have understood opposition politics against autocracy better than you.
Trump, Putin, Farage… your boy took a hell of a beating.
Congratulations to the people of Hungary for showing that populist extremists can be defeated – even despite Donald Trump’s best efforts.
Congratulations to Peter Magyar and his Tisza party. I hope they can repair Hungary’s political situation.
It’s more exciting than the 2002 Hungarian general election, which I covered.
I had the misfortune that the first round came the same day that Jean-Marie Le Pen came second in the first round of the French presidential elections.
Gratulálok Magyar Péternek és a Tisza partjanak.
Azt remélem, hogy a Magyar politikai helyzetet megjavulhat.
Remember this feeling six months from now, when you once again demand Hungary to be removed from the EU/NATO
About 1km to the left of the parliament building is where @susanrwright.bsky.social and I lived from 1999 until 2003.
Someone pointed out that there was a similar incident in Sutton in January which got much less attention. The Sutton one featured mainly white kids. There’s definitely an element of racism in some of the responses.
