Damn - this is really good. Modeling plant communities with Dirichlet regression. I use beta and ordered beta (thanks, @rmkubinec.bsky.social!) a lot, but this is very cool. Something I'd normally use gllvm for, but maybe... ecogambler.netlify.app/blog/plant-c...

It was an absolute honour to be part of the Future engineers program, empowered by Women In Subsea and Energy, inspiring young girls into engineering and other STEM careers. We ran a transdisciplinary workshop with my amazing engineering colleagues to demonstrate the importance of working together.
Super happy with this piece of work being finally out. Fantastic cross-disciplinary collaboration with lead author Dan Luo from UQ. Here we address challenges and opportunities of floating artificial structures. Check out the whole book!

"Thinking time —the time needed to concentrate without interruptions has always been central to scholarly work. It is essential to designing experiments, compiling data, assessing results, reviewing literature and, of course, writing. Yet, [it] is often undervalued."

Excited to be a small part of this great collaboration. Hot off the press, work led by Amelia Mannering. Here, we report that microplastic ingestion increases oxidative stress in fish, but doesn’t make them easier prey. 🐟🧪 #Microplastics #FishHealth

Joining online to see the final presentation of my amazing Master student, Alyaa Shara Shaharuddin who investigated microplastic contamination in small reef fish. Excellent work, Alyaa!

Basking shark historical sketch.
Friends, I am seeking a historian in either Irish or Scottish lore specialized in leviathans, basking sharks, or any other marine creatures.
We have new additions to our #CoastalHistory starter pack, so take a look if you're interested in coastal history!
Likewise, if you're researching and writing about coastal history topics, please let me know if you want to be part of our community.

With current trends and policies, we'll transgress all planetary boundaries in 2050, except for ozone depletion. Targeted interventions — e.g., the Paris Agreement — can help, but not enough. More effective policy measures are needed to ensure we live well within the planetary boundaries.
That is stupid - judgement on something constructive - sure. But if someone is being an Ahole they should remove such a comment. In fact I think such a poor, unprofessional attitude disqualifies the reviewer.

🦪Wow: New study shows that noise pollution also disturbs mussels: shipping noise caused stress-related inflammation with increased energy demand, higher protein turnover & disrupted nervous system activity, promoting delayed larval metamorphosis in suboptimal habitats.

Bottom trawling is horribly destructive to coastal ocean ecosystems, and deep-sea mining will do the same to the open ocean. #OceanFilm 🌊
This is a fascinating study on fishing altering fish migratory patterns.
It’s management implications are important.
I’ve argued that Limit Reference Points also need to consider the ecological role of the fished stock.
This is an example of why that matters.

“Climate change is so widespread across the Arctic & we’re seeing this magnitude of warming at 4X the rate than the rest of the 🌎. We expected to see very concrete trends & trajectories. Because in other biomes, we are. But the Arctic is a special & often unexpected place.” - Mariana García Criado
