Hey! I’m at #NICAR26. Say hi if you’re here too!
Also on a panel this afternoon at 3:45 — Data in the world of audio — with the wonderful @jjw.bsky.social @hannahereale.bsky.social @claytonguse.bsky.social
Come to learn about how to talk about data on air and make sound rich data features!

It’s my first day on the @wsj.com data team! Excited to get started

Got into the weeds on SNAP for @usnews.com. Long story short: these cuts would result in millions of people getting less help with groceries, or no help at all.
Come ask me about ranking the states!
Our senior data editor, @jjw.bsky.social is taking all of your questions about our 2025 Best States Rankings. Ask her about Utah. Ask her about crime. Heck, ask her about Les Miz!

I'll be on SiriusXM #124 at 4:45 ET to talk about our new inflation tracker!
AW HELL YEAH
Quite possibly Long Island's most architecturally significant (and my personal favorite) structure
We're tracking egg prices, inflation and more over at @usnews.com money.usnews.com/money/person...
A chart showing egg prices in U.S. cities between 2019 and 2025. Prices have risen sharply since mid-2023, from just over $2 per dozen to nearly $6 per dozen.
Eggs 🥚 are averaging close to $6 per carton across the U.S., according to the latest government data.

A chart showing GDP growth estimates from the The Atlanta Federal Reserve's GDPNow. Its most recent estimate of first-quarter GDP change is -2.8%, down substantially from last month's predictions.

A screenshot from the linked article reading: "The letter also said that trial preparation would unduly restrict Mr. Adams and that the trial itself would keep him stuck in court, potentially for more than a month. It said that Mr. Adams’s loss of a security clearance during the inquiry had hurt his ability to cooperate with federal authorities on important national security investigations. And it asserted that Mr. Adams was aligned with the Trump administration on public safety and illegal immigration. If the prosecution proceeded, the letter said, Mr. Adams could not be an active partner to the Department of Homeland Security. Despite those arguments — or perhaps in light of them — Mr. Bove’s directive to Manhattan federal prosecutors included an unusual footnote. “The government is not offering to exchange dismissal of a criminal case for Adams’s assistance on immigration enforcement,” it said.
My "The government is not offering to exchange dismissal of a criminal case for Adams’s assistance on immigration enforcement" footnote has people asking a lot of questions already answered by my footnote www.nytimes.com/2025/02/13/n...
Update (3pm ET on February 5th): the Census FTP site, including the ACS flat files and TIGER/Line shapefiles, is back up!
This means that your #rstats / #Python Census geodata packages are now working as normal.
Get your data now!
All good, thank you for trying and for keeping us posted. I was able to download the ALLDATA file so at least I have a local copy for the time being.
For the record, a big chunk of this data is still accessible via the API and/or data.census.gov!
@kylewalker.bsky.social's got the latest straight from the source: bsky.app/profile/kyle...
Thank you so much, Kyle, this is really helpful to know. One thing I'm stressing about right now are the post-2022 POPEST figures -- they seem to only be available via FTP. Sometimes I can download them, other times I get 403'd :(
Truly such an eerie feeling to be noodling around on Census.gov for my silly little non-news data analysis purposes and find 403 errors left and right 🙃
