There’s no shortage of people promising that interspace colonisation is just around the corner, pending the resolution of some minor technological challenges. But, as the astrophysicists Arwen E Nicholson and Raphaëlle D Haywood argue, there really is no such thing as a ‘Planet B’ #EarthDay

Bitter ENEasterly still blustering and a lot of cloud cover. A brisk walk before lunch had me shivering again lol. 🙂
Morning Elaine. 🙂
Mostly the wren and the willow warbler in joyful competition with each other. The other voices more sporadic (except the skylarks which were on the coast and in the cemetery).🙂
Feeling colder than winter this morning and I’ve just come across this lovely little video celebration of last years Wintertide Festival here on the Headland.
Good morning. Head still ringing with the cold despite having worn my winter hat. Tilly dog was nonplussed lol. Thawing slowly, toast eaten and coffee steaming. 🙂
This morning’s songbird serenade. Leaving the wind blasted coastal path we wander through the old cemetery and along the old railway path. Bluebells and pockets of white and purple dead nettles edge the wayside.
The words ‘wind like a whetted knife’ reverberate through my head as we walk the coastal path. I don’t think I was this cold throughout the whole of winter.
… sunrise.
Good morning 🌅…
I did have a conversation with Sophie on the bird site some time ago but I’ve not come across her here. 🙂
I have never been much of a birdwatcher myself but the sound of the curlew always transports me back to one warm, blissful summer in my youth. And here also they can sometimes be seen and heard at the edges of the harbour alongside the oystercatchers. #worldcurlewday
Good morning. 🙂 Your first sentence captures the plight of those merchant sailors admirably.
Dystopian may be but inspired by the industrial landscape here on Teesside which Scott knew when growing up. Specifically the Wilton Chemical Plant and Hartlepool’s steelworks were the primary inspiration for the opening scenes.
It is. Thank you. Not sure the debris here is from bombing- although some of the area was bombed in WW1. But there has been a lot of housing clearance over time and a lot was used along part of the banks to prevent erosion. 🙂
Absolutely. 🙂 Morning Karl.

Good morning 🌅 …
Almost high tide. Not sure how much longer they will remain here.
It’s goodnight from me, and it’s goodnight from them…
Thank you John. I can’t really complain. Still got some mental faculties and my bones don’t creak too much yet lol.🙂
Me too, of all the Tales that remains the most vivid in my memory. (I wonder why lol).
Not sure Adrian Mole would agree lol. To be quite honest I’ve not read the book or seen previous projects so 🤷🏻♀️
That’s what hitting our age does for you Gary lol. The last thing I was involved in (in a very small way) was Swallows and Amazons when they were filming in the Lake District back in the 70’s. Student days. Not really my idea of a great way of spending time - but you might have had some fun? 🙂
Oh gosh. That is something I would really have to think about. Probably a hand written letter about how I felt about today’s world and a few personal life notes. Accompanied by some small pocket items and snapshots of the here and now. 🤷🏻♀️
I see they have started filming The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾ in Hartlepool as part of the new BBC series.
I wonder. A lot of this came from demolished housing and industrial buildings. A real mix of whole buildings being broken up and tipped. The ornate, carved sandstone holds another story. I just can’t find any information about it.
The poetry of brick and stone…
The beach here is backed by high slag banks which front what once were industrial sites. Failing brick-filled gabion baskets fronting the banks were removed for public safety reasons between 2008 and 2010. Many loose bricks remain, helping to combat coastal erosion.
We definitely need a silver lining. 🙂 Good morning young man.
