Oceania “It’s a serious thing to be alive on this fresh morning in this broken world.” Mary Oliver I am the ocean. When you see me, you feel my power in every cell of your body. You are awed by my power, although it doesn’t scare you. I go on forever and ever. I am the waters of birth, and so I support you in your flowering.

Proprioception Image by Hanna Witte “Self-observation without self-judgment is the highest form of spiritual practice.” Swami Kripalu Proprioception is the sense of knowing where your body is in space. Sensory receptors within muscles, tendons and joints transmit proprioceptive signals to the nervous system to create a representation of body position, movement and acceleration. I have practiced/taught yoga for over thirty years, beginning with classic yoga asana, (poses), & pranayama, (breathwork), and gradually shifting into a Divine Feminine form of this ancient practice.

Tasting Image by Julie Sd on Unsplash “Pull up a chair. Take a taste. Come join us. Life is so endlessly delicious.” Ruth Reichl Everyone has different tastes. In food, in style, in everything. Sometimes it’s delicious and sometimes it’s bitter & we rebel. “Just take a taste,” a mother encourages her child as a new food is placed in front of her.

March Image by Anastasiya Romanova on Unsplash “The beauty of nature insists on taking its time. Everything is prepared. Nothing is rushed. The rhythm of emergence is a gradual slow beat always inching its way forward; change remains faithful to itself until the new unfolds in the full confidence of true arrival. Because nothing is abrupt, the beginning of spring nearly always catches us unawares.

Touch Image by Yoann Boyer on Unsplash “Too often we underestimate the power of touch.” Leo Buschglia The touch of a hand when you’re feeling lost and confused can bring comfort and a sense of belonging, as it did for me at my mother’s memorial service. Fresh from the hospital room where she died, my first home gone, that touch drew me back to the celebration of her life on that rainy spring day in 1984.

What I have Learned Things I’ve Learned I wrote this in my newsletter to my students in 2023, and it’s all still relevant today! 1 Love is the answer to every question. 2 I can move past anxiety. 3 Reading brings me happiness. 4 The world will break my heart….sometimes daily. 5 Jigsaw puzzles calm my jangled nerves. 6 I need an audience to write for.

Ancestors This essay is in response to @Beth Kempton’s Soul Circle word “Wintery.” But it is also a tribute to my ancestors, and the realm of the Divine Feminine as she guides our hearts and minds to live in the present moment based on a deep acknowledgement of the past and those from whom we arose. Every holiday season as I was growing up, my mother prepared bouquets for our family headstones.

What is enlightenment? “All spiritualities consistently describe the same state: a direct experience of reality unclouded by thought. Love, presence, God, enlightenment-same thing. This is what happens when the mind grows still. The end goal is to wake up to this moment, fully, and live from it.” Paraphrased from Damian Echols

Shard,as in a shard of memory What interests me about memories isn’t what the memory is about, but what it elicits when it arises in my mind. Watch this--- The scent of my grandmother’s linen closet…the labyrinthine halls of the second floor in her house where I played with my dolls, creating towns and homes for them around the corners….and then, how I recently had the chance to tour her home which the present owner had bought from my grandmother in 1967.

Clarity Art by Susan Seddon Boulet “What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life? The world would split open.” Muriel Rukeyser “I dedicate my spirit to eradicating patriarchal holds on women’s sovereignty.” M. Chabinsky Sovereignty means complete independence, authority and power. In this patriarchal world women do not have sovereignty, and I contend that sovereignty will not be ours until there is a balance of masculine and feminine in every aspect of our lives.
