Acton rolls out affordability plan, including targeted tax cut COLUMBUS — As many as 775,000 Ohio families would receive a tax cut under Dr. Amy Acton’s affordability plan, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate ...

No family should fall into financial hardship because someone got sick or injured. Dr. Amy Acton is making medical debt relief for Ohioans a key priority in her affordability plan. That’s the kind of leadership we need right now.

To the editor: Protect Ohio consumers against powerful officials Ohio families are paying more every month to keep the lights on — and some of that pain traces straight back to Columbus’ culture of corruption. Last ...

Energy prices have been rising at nearly twice the rate of inflation. But Trump and Jon Husted are killing clean energy projects - driving our bills up even higher while killing good-paying jobs. Ohio families deserve better.

More than 110 lawmakers from 27 states came together for a Day of Solidarity with Minnesota communities.

States have both the authority and the obligation to protect civil rights, demand accountability, and act together when our constitutional rights and democratic principles are threatened.

Proud to sign petitions last night for:

🖊️ The Ohio Equal Rights Amendment
🖊️ The Ohio Right to Marry Amendment

Together, they would guarantee equal protection under the law, protect marriage equality, and prevent politicians from interfering in the lives of Ohio families. ohioequalrights.org

It was great catching up with John Kulewicz in Toledo tonight. Ohio deserves an Attorney General who shows up for everyday people.

From taking on high healthcare costs and crushing medical debt to cracking down on corporate price-gouging and wage theft, I’m fighting to level the playing field for everyday people.

Ohio needs leaders who stand up to the powerful instead of tearing down the vulnerable. I’m running for reelection because our families deserve a life they can afford.

Great to see Toledoans out in numbers for #ICEOutForGood! Americans are demanding accountability for ICE’s killing of Renee Nicole Good. When a government responds to a civilian’s death with lies and vile rhetoric, this stops being about one hothead agent and becomes a test for our democracy.

In times like these, showing up matters. We gathered in Ottawa Hills this morning to defend democracy and the rule of law and to protect our neighbors from fear and hate. #AbolishICE

Ohio cities rank among the most medically expensive, analysis finds • Ohio Capital Journal Amid other rising costs, three Ohio cities rank near the top when it comes to medical expenses as a share of income, a new analysis said.

Toledo ranks 4th in the nation for healthcare costs as a share of income. Healthcare costs are rising faster than inflation and wages aren’t keeping up. We cannot accept a status quo where our families are constantly one medical emergency away from financial ruin.

Whether they’re called “service fees,” “processing fees,” or “convenience charges,” we've all felt the sticker shock at checkout.

Predatory junk fees cost U.S. consumers an estimated $90 billion a year. Our Fee Transparency Act would crack down on deceptive pricing in Ohio.

Two bills introduced to regulate pet stores, pet loans in Ohio Democratic State Representatives Lauren McNally and Michele Grim introduced two bills to prohibit loans to purchase pets, as well as restore local government authority to regulate the sale of pets.

Our bills protect pets and their families by banning predatory pet store loans and restoring the power of local communities to regulate pet stores and stop puppy sales. 🐾

Ohioans expect responsible, transparent practices when it comes to animal welfare. These bills help move us closer to that standard.

The second bill restores local control over pet stores. Communities should have the power to disallow puppy sales at pet stores and set standards that reflect their commitment to humane treatment.

The first bill bans predatory loans in pet stores - high-interest, often confusing financing that can burden families with unexpected costs.

Ohio lawmakers propose bill to protect patients from medical debt collections and wage garnishment The bill would prohibit medical debt from appearing on credit reports, ban wage garnishment and cap interest at 3%, down from the current 8%.

Medical care saves lives. Wage garnishment ruins them. It’s time to end wage garnishment for medical debt and to stop treating people like criminals because they got sick.

Families shouldn’t be pushed into poverty because they needed healthcare. I’m fighting to end wage garnishment for medical debt because Ohioans deserve stability while they’re healing - not financial ruin.

The Ohio House just passed HB 148 to allow Ohioans to donate part of their tax refund to the Ohio Pet Fund. It’s a simple way to strengthen spay/ neuter programs and support our shelters and humane societies. 🐾 Proud to sponsor this bipartisan bill with Rep. Sharon Ray. (RIP Max, 2009–2024)

This is an emergency. This is about families being able to put food on the table and about the stability of our communities. We need immediate action to restore SNAP benefits.
