I mix my #horror with #steampunk #scifi and #cyberpunk. I also have some #historicalfiction in the works and a #nonfiction / #newage / #writingcraft project because I too #containmultitudes. A little horror enhances everything, like salt and hot pepper! #horrorwriterschat

<--Orphan, childfree, neurodivergent only child of 2 only children. Hubby works 55 miles away & I'm here writing on the couch. I text my friends stupid shit from the internet to remind them I'm alive. I sometimes pick up new friends vending at author/pagan/horror events. #horrorwriterschat
Hi Kat! I sat next to you at Barnes & Noble a few weeks ago.

On a technical level? Choosing the right adjectives and nouns, paying attention to the rhythm of them, the way they feel when you say them aloud or in your head. It's hard to explain but you know it when you read it, and that's the best way to learn to do it.
No escape is so important. If the reader ever thinks, "why don't they just..." and you didn't close that loop, that's lazy writing.
Why didn't the eagle just fly Frodo to Mount Doom? Why didn't they tie the Ring to an animal so no sentient being had to hold onto it and be corrupted?
Oh yeah, writing in close perspective is so important in horror. I hate filter words. I saw, she heard. Ugh. I try so hard to train anyone who I edit out of them.
Isolated and TRAPPED. It's one thing if you're far away, but if you can get in the car and leave... Then the car breaks down, the phone has no signal, your leg is broken. Look at Evil Dead, with the washed-out bridge. That entrapment amps it up.

happy birthday!! ๐ฐ
I didn't even try for that reason. I admire their bravery in submitting though and I would have screamed louder than anyone if either or both had made it into the TOC!
Missed you guys. I'm sure you were up to no good behind my back.
Physical isolation. A small group of people together, but apart from the rest of the world. It turns psychological. As far as social distancing goes, I'm neurodivergent so I live that way all the time, on the edge of society. That's my normal. #horrorwriterschat
I will never forget how I felt the first time I read "To Build a Fire," the absolute devastation at the futile ending. And which story had the get-rich-quick egg scheme in it?
