From 1967, B-side to What's It Gonna Be. Terrific, over-the top orchestral pop.

SotD: Stardust, John Coltrane
youtu.be/BztBO0kLrlY?...
Title track from the album recorded in 58 but released in 63. With a catalog like Coltrane's, I don't know if this gets mentioned much, but it is a wonderful, gorgeous 10-11 minutes.
SotD: Portrait, Wayne Horvitz

Piece for solo piano, written and performed by Horvitz. From the new album with Robin Holcomb, Echos of Casa Console.

From his new album, Distracted. Lovely vocal ballad with Thundercat channeling some serious pet sounds era Brian Wilson vibes.

April March and Los Cincos cover the Jaggers/Richards classic. From the 1998 album, April March And Los Cincos.
Incidentally, she's married to another pretty good guitar player, Julian Lage.
Here is the video, which i thought was fun:

SotD: Act Natural, Margart Glaspy

Only slightly familiar with Glaspy, I came across this today and it's my new favorite song. I love how it's pop but loose, original, and idioyncratic. I like the arrangement and she's an excellent guitar player.

SotD: Gullah Jack Style, Melvin Gibbs
melvin-gibbs.bandcamp.com/track/gullah...
From his recent lp, Amasia: Anamibia Sessions 2. Though it's all electric instruments, including distorted guitar, and percussion, a chill track. Thought the video, available on the song's bandcamp page, was beautiful.
SotD: SotD: Ode to Prez, Jaki Byard
youtu.be/r2R6VC3rIcM?...
From the 1966 album, Freedom Together. Byard on electric piano and tenor sax. But it's Alan Dawson on timpani that is the high point here. Don't know who is playing the trap set. Weird, moody, great vibe.
SotD: When Heroes Go Down, Suzanne Vega

A favorite from her 1992 album, 99.9 F.

From the Glasgowans 2002 album, Hate. Lovely orchestral pop.
...only released much later as an alternate take. In some weird way, to my ears, it sounds like precursor to the orchestral pop of the mid-late 60s.
...but since he was just starting out, didn't think he would be able to get her to sing it. She heard it and liked it and recorded several versions. A different version was released in 1946. But I love this version recorded in 1944, orchestrated by Salvador Camarata and...

Heard this yesterday on the WKCR Billie Holiday birthday broadcast. Hadn't heard this version before, but liked it immediately. Written in 1944 by Leonard Bernstein for his ballet, Fancy Free. He wrote it with Billie Holiday in mind,...

Live perforance from Japan in 1999. Such great faux pet sounds. I last posted a studio version about 12 years ago but, hey, this is live! Just glad i manage to refrain from posting it every other day.
SotD: Until We Meet Again, Hermanos Guteirrez

Guitar duet performed live on KEXP last June. As far as I can tell, it's just the two of them, even those percussive sounds. Though it might be there is a percussionist off camera.

From their 1968 album, feeling the pain. This track in particular sounds like a mix of Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 with NY boogaloo. Also, a great band name.
SotD: Tomorrow's Yesterday, Karin Korg

Title track from the 88-year-old Norwegian jazz singer's recent album. A gorgeous performance. With Erlend Slettevoll/piano and Rob Waring/vibes.
SotD: Flowers, Harriet Tubman and Georgia Anne Muldrow
