On Wednesday I spoke at 2nd reading of Bill S-206 ā a proposal to create a national framework for a Guaranteed Livable Basic Income (GLBI).
Too many people are struggling to meet their most basic needs. It's time for Canada to invest in a system that leaves no one behind. #GLBI #PovertyReduction

What can young voters do to protect the CWB? Commit to vote in the upcoming federal election: update your voter registration, make a voting plan, and encourage friends to vote. Vote strategically in your riding: learn which candidates are most likely to beat the Conservatives in your own neighbourhood.
visit basicincomeyouth.ca/nocuts for info on how to make a voting plan and tips on strategic voting!!
Weāre looking for commitments to protect the CWB and increase benefit amounts to better support those that need it most. Poverty is a policy choice. Thatās why we need strong commitments to end it. The Conservatives wonāt do that. They claim to care about affordability but wonāt commit to protecting the CWB, which puts money directly in the hands of Canadians.

This election, We Can't Afford Conservative Cuts!! #nocuts
Who will protect it? So far, no party has included the CWB in their 2025 platform. But some have made other commitments to support low-income Canadians. For example, the NDPās tax plan is projected to provide the most savings for lower-income earners making between $14,000 and $31,000.
So far, no party has included the Canada Workers Benefit in their 2025 platform. But some ( š the NDP) have made other commitments to support low-income Canadians.
Who will risk it? The Conservativesā latest promise to reduce taxes is projected to benefit the richest 30%, while providing almost no savings to low income workers. At the same time, Conservatives have made no mention of the CWB during this election period. This means no commitments to maintain or improve the CWB. Conservatives have said that they will cut spending on programs if they win the next election.
We want to see the Canada Workers' Benefit expanded and improved!!
guess who wonāt even commit to maintaining the current CWB? š
Pierre Poilievre and the conservative party *womp womp*
Why does it matter? Many Canadians living in poverty are working. While not perfect, the CWB puts more money in low income workers' pockets to help cope with the rising cost of living.
Many Canadians living in poverty are working (often multiple jobs).
While not perfect, the Canada Workers Benefit puts more money in low income workers' pockets to help cope with the rising cost of living.
What is it? The Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) is a tax credit to help individuals and families who are working and earning a low income. The CWB has two parts: a basic amount and a disability supplement. What is it?
The CWB is a tax credit to help individuals and families who are working and earning a low income. CWB makes a difference in reducing poverty and its impacts by putting money in the pockets of low income workers!!
TL;DR: The Conservatives, led by Pierre Poilievre, have made no commitments to maintain or improve the Canada Workers Benefit, while also promising tax cuts to the richest 30%. We want to see programs for low income workers protected and expanded, but we donāt trust the Conservatives to do that.

Letās talk about the Canada Workers Benefit (CWB)
CANāT AFFORD CONSERVATIVE CUTS š«āļø alright alright alright letās get into some DETAILS!!! Today, weāre talkin about the Canada Workers Benefit (CWB), an important income security program that we want federal parties to commit to improving in their election platforms!!
