very quick pencil one again today because I left it a bit late

opted to not ink this one because I did too late in the day and I gotta make dinner oops. concerted effort to not go as wide this time so I think proportions have looked a lot closer than usual

wanted to re-read Battle Angel Alita, but instead of doing my usual thing of screencapping random panels to post I thought I'd try doing a study for each chapter. Here's the first four I did (the first one isn't from the first chapter I just chose a random one from last Order lol)

His judgement is swift and terrible, and his aim is steady as the horizon (Tobungus)

The tobungus is moving and dancing excellently, ending his movements with a flourish. A single peace sign. He overexerts and pushes a bit far, before snapping back to a more comfortable position. It is after this brief pause, he continues his merry dancing, repeating the same movements into the peace sign finale, over and over. He will do this for as long as you look at him, no matter the time you invest. He will dance, his treat, for you, forever and ever and ever into eternity. And you know he wants to, it's his job, his goal is for you to smile. Tobungus is an eternal being with a whimsical mind, and making you happy is his ultimate goal. He will stop at nothing to make sure you are happy. It's a curse, constant happiness, that he wishes to inflict upon you. A human needs some level of anguish and stress, to keep their mind functioning, and Tobungus wants you weak and yearning for constant dopamine. He'll dance for as long as you look, and you'll keep looking. Every step snapping to the next. The squat, the jump, the head stand, all leading into the grand finale: A large peace sign, just for you... peace. Become peaceful, become dormant, submit to his will. You must, because you're still looking. You're still taking in all this text while he dances, for you. He's numbing your brain, turning your grey matter into paste. You can even feel it, the tissue of your mind relaxing, becoming one with the fluid that surrounds it. Pure bliss. Now you cannot look away, because now that you've known a relaxed brain, you also know a tense one. The constant tensing of the brain tissue to keep it firm and thinking. You can never go back, thanks to Tobungus. And yet he still dances. What is his real goal? He has you locked on him, dependant to his dance and peace sign flourish, but he still just keeps doing it. Does he even know why he does it? Is he also a creature, locked forever in torment just for you? Best not to know. Keep watching, the peace sign is coming. Oh, there it is
