It’s weird and strangely boring?

The magnolia trees are blossoming 🥰 My favorite part of spring is when all the trees blossom with flowers before they turn to leaves
I cannot tell you how many policy conversations I’ve been privy to where the central dilemma is “we need to incentivize private actors to do something, but for unclear reasons they cannot be permitted to earn any sort of profit by doing it.“
i really dislike the implication that museums, a radical democratization of high art, are actually just diversions for the rich.
Two graphs showing sentiment and posts per minute, both 12 hour cycles
The sitewide sentiment of Bluesky consistently works in 12 hour cycles. That's not surprising - "shifts" and all that, right? - but it's an interesting glimpse of regional emotional temperature
Now this is another song in the same oeuvre but it’s not as good on a point by point basis. There are 2 points where it’s excellent: the singer’s vocal melodrama and the brass instruments, but the singer’s voice is not as interesting, everything is so mild except the brass

Melodrama has its time and place my dears
Look, it’s a good song
If you’ve never listened to it, try it. If you haven’t listened to it in almost 30 years, listen to it again

a lot of people tell me they can't relate to my transness even if they love me for it, but i always tell them that there's more in common than they might think. at the fundamental level, we are all torn between how we are expected to be and how we really are. one has to win out.
NEW: Spending on new medical research by the National Institutes of Health has fallen roughly $1 billion behind the pace of years past, delaying thousands of scientific projects.

New post! Are you following @sketchplanations.bsky.social ? He is great at explaining complex ideas via text and images, and some of those complex ideas are statistical.

A dog poses on a table. He's surrounded by a tailor's measuring tape.
Every time this tailor posts a photo of their workspace, it looks like their dog is a tailor and he's showing off the garments he made.

Bless their little loser hearts, Virginia constitutional amendments first have to pass the full legislature twice before they ever go before voters
There’s the fallacy of CCTV that they make people ‘safer’ When in reality it does nothing to prevent crime and they are only useful for evidence if they are actually networked, and have a searchable record that is backed up for more than a few days that’s actually accessible to investigators
No. I expect them to have good morals and values but I don’t control how they choose to express or what they choose to participate in. Participating in protests and boycotts is a privileged inconvenience. As a parent I care about their safety and comfort more than anything. Just be a good person
I haven’t seen Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy yet, which is really weird to me. I’m not saying other guys wouldn’t be good at playing a version of Darcy, but for that version he was perfection
i swear him playing The Acolyte as this character would be a solid 6 season mega hit

WA, it’s gonna be big this year, DO NOT SLACK
Amazing new resource for anyone trying to follow changes on state supreme courts.
Every cycle, around 20% of the seats on state high courts are up for election, and @taniel.bsky.social writes up every one of this year's races.
Here’s a great version of one of them

A bag of Tim’s Cascade potato chips - Special Batch 26, Sweet and Tangy Secret Sauce
If you are an 80’s kid and you are wondering if it’s *that* secret sauce, yes it is
It’s mild but satisfying
I’m still resentful that they watered down Sasquatch Surprise when they rolled it over to being All Dressed though. Quit being cheapos you cowards
Some days I'm "people, not platforms," and some days I'm "potatoes, not people"

The public probably also wouldn't be freaking out about data centers as much if Trump wasn't canceling all the renewable energy projects that would keep electricity prices low, plus in the northeast the tariffs on cheap Quebec hydro power.
This was incredibly delightful
MAJOR UPDATE: I found the best free restaurant bread in the United States www.theatlantic.com/magazine/202...
