Had a similar experience being accused (by a prominent influencer no less) of using AI generated texts just because he didn't like the writing style.

I think they do it on purpose just to get attention.

Scratches is coming to ScummVM!

First step is to reimplement its original teaser from 2003, notoriously in "slideshow" format when not even music was planned. This one may be ready shortly, and bigger features are being planned for the actual game 🤩

This is a good point.

Who knows. Depends on the nature of the contract he signed back then.

My mom has a pup who looks *exactly* like that.

Shameful to say the least. Even if it's legit, the entire release reeks of amateur. Terrible trailer, overall artwork and materials, and a silly launch on Sunday of all days.

Extremely fishy, and there's a "Larry" person addressing concerns in the Steam forums, but not inspiring any confidence.

Edgar Allan Poe's Interactive Horror: 1995 Edition on Steam Originally released as The Dark Eye, this 1995 cult classic adapts Edgar Allan Poe's most macabre tales. Navigate a nightmarish world of uncanny stop-motion puppetry narrated by William S. Burroughs. ...

@dosnostalgic.bsky.social what are your thoughts on this highly suspicious re-release of The Dark Eye, featuring cringe AI-generated posts and website? store.steampowered.com/app/4289030/...

You know, the first thing that came to mind when I watched the trailer was A Monster's Expedition. Not the same type of game, but quite a similar vibe.

It's still weird, they could have very well used the same digitized sounds from the Amiga version. Who knows what happened 🤷‍♂️

Very much looking forward to the FS-UAE rewrite. You might be able to achieve a similar look, with the exception of the ReShade step which only available on Windows. Still, those are simple shaders that can be converted in the future. Let me know how it goes!

Yes, I detect *some* digital effects, but the majority seems FM. I'll give it another shot.

Exactly like this every time I turn on the Amiga.

OK, seems like it was the other way around: FM synthesis on DOS, wavetable on Amiga. Even with Sound Blaster sans MT-32.

Fine, fine, point is, it could be done. I know that wasn't its main selling point by a long shot.

Firing up DOSBox too. This doesn't end here.

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

Well, yes, it's soft, but it's still leveraging hardware capabilities. If we're strict, even digital or wavetable effects are synthetized at some point. I don't think Bitmap Bros had aliens grunting and recording the effects.

Can't really tell to which extent games used this, but the sound effects in Gods are different for some reason.

I really appreciated the early sci-fi pulp design they went for.

They're not exactly the same effects though, pretty sure they're synthetized in the Amiga version.

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

OK, now seriously: I checked it out and prefer it without the in-game OST. The monster grunts, that cavernous, atmospheric feel is gone with the MT-32. Another nice touch is in the Amiga you can hear the guy panting when you climb ladders. The MT-32 conversion of the main tune is cool, though.
