For people who are concerned about having their devices seized at US airports starting Monday when ICE "assists" the TSA, EFF has this guide: www.eff.org/deeplinks/20...

It’s the Douglass Day transcribe-athon at Courthouse Libraries BC! We love the idea of crowd-sourced action to create public digital access to the writings of Black people. This project raises up and permanently embeds voices previously left out of publicly accessible historic records.
I have a car trip today. What *fun* audiobook should I listen to?
(Please don’t sarcastically/ironically try to defeat the question. I am running on fumes.)
This.
Also good for legal community.
Worked UofA's Dinwoodie 1982 gig where Iggy Pop broke some bones in a fall and kept performing. His fans loved him, and he gave it back.

Violet Affleck get its! This article should be picked up by every serious outlet in mainstream media.

Fund Libraries. Tell Congress to invest in libraries. American Library Association.
This is the LAST CHANCE to tell Congress to #FundLibraries. We need you to make your voice heard TODAY. Letters in Congress in support of library funding are about to close.
Call your Senators and urge them to fund libraries in next year's budget: bit.ly/Call2FundLibraries #ForOurLibraries
A month in and #Sinners is back on top of the box office, as it should be. If you want to keep the vibes going, here are some books for your TBR. reactormag.com/what-to-read...
An infographic with information on what to do if you find a baby bird. Is it visibly injured? If yes, contact an animal welfare organisation. If no: does it have feathers? If yes, it’s a fledgling. If it’s in immediate danger, move it to a sheltered spot nearby. If no, do nothing. If it doesn’t have feathers, it’s a nestling. If you can see a nest, put it back in the nest. If not, contact an animal welfare organisation.
It’s the time of year when you might find a baby bird and want to help. Most often (and slightly counterintuitively) it’s best to do nothing. Here’s a useful guide.

My favorite part of the West Coast LEAF #EqualityBreakfast is ED Raji Mangat's endearing annual fundraising ask. Congrats to WCL on 40 years of groundbreaking gains in equity through legal action and education! Please consider donating: westcoastleaf.org/donate/
BC Chief Justice Len Marchand speaking to seated dinner guests, with a banner behind him with the logo of the AJEFBC
Very impressed with BC Chief Justice Len Marchand delivering his speech at the ajefcb.ca dinner tonight in French, having been studying the language not only as a connection to his personal heritage but also as a personal commitment to increasing access to French-speaking judges in BC. (ajefcb.ca)
An extraordinary evening with friends and colleagues in Victoria, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada. SCC Chief Justice Richard Wagner was inspiring - the Rule of Law is not self-sustaining. In these uncertain times, it requires all of us to defend and uphold.
If You Interact with ICE Agents at Work: Ask if you are free to leave. If so, you may calmly walk out. You have the right to refuse consent to a search. You have the right to remain silent. You do not have to discuss your immigration status with anyone, such as about where you were born, whether you are a citizen, or how you entered the country. If you have valid immigration documents, you should show them. Never provide fake documents. If you are arrested, say that you wish to remain silent until speaking with a lawyer. You have the right to record your interaction with immigration agents as long as you do not interfere.
If ICE Agents Show Up at Your Door You do not have to open the door. If you do, stay calm – you have rights. Ask what they are there for (and ask for an interpreter if you need one). If they ask to enter, ask if they have a warrant signed by a judge and if so, ask to see it (through a window or slipped under the door). If they do not have a warrant signed by a judge, you may refuse to let them in. Ask them to leave any information at your door. If they force their way in, do not resist. Tell everyone in the residence to remain silent. If you are arrested, you have the right to remain silent. Do not sign anything until you speak with a lawyer.
Tú tienes derecho a guardar silencio.
Regardless of your immigration status in the U.S., you have guaranteed rights under the Constitution. Know your rights and assert them.
Independientemente de su estatus migratorio en los Estados Unidos, usted tiene derechos garantizados por la Constitución. Conozca sus derechos y hágalos valer.
Super-interesting read on how young male voters have been/are being reached and influenced through podcast channels.
I've seen a few people posting about helping out your local library. As your friendly neighborhood Library Director Man, some thoughts so that you help in, well, helpful ways.

one of my favorite stories I did at Vox was about Jimmy Carter and his role in energy efficiency standards at the DOE. Truly underappreciated legacy that tangibly improved everyday life www.vox.com/climate/2023...
