'SWIMS' upside down is still 'SWIMS.'

I just want to alleviate concerns for all my authors and prospective authors that I have never used ChatGPT, never shared anything AI, worked really hard to avoid every aspect of it, and will ABSOLUTELY NEVER upload your novels to any AI function.
I am a slow reader, but it me. I am the reader.

Draft2Digital: somewhat evil, I gather?
Am•zod: rather more evil
IngramSpark: IDK maybe a bit less evil

Good question! Weightless doesn't carry self-pub; we don't have the infrastructure, and I don't have time, to host, provide quality control and accounting for individual authors. We tried and it didn't work! OFC one can sell books on their own site, but what other hubs for self-pub ebooks exist?
So, thinking about this... What is the best way for a self pub author to sell DRM free ebooks? Open to any all suggestions.

Buying ebooks with DRM isn't actually buying books, it's renting them. If you buy a print book, it's yours forever. Books don't go "obsolete". Ebooks should be the same. Don't buy ebooks with DRM.
@libreture.com has a huge list of DRM-free e-booksellers. Weightless is among them
Deregistering it messes up the DRM keys for books sold by amazon with DRM on them.
Copying DRM-free files into the documents folder over USB should work the same way it always has.
Sadly, removing DRM from ebooks you bought is much much harder than pirating them.
FWIW the last time I bought a new computer was 2011, one year after Weightless started
Despite Amazon's news, remember that your old Amazon Kindle is still perfectly good for reading ebooks!
While the Send to Kindle feature will no longer work on these older devices, you can still transfer ebooks to them over USB. It's how I transfer my ebooks from Libreture to my old Sony Reader.
If you don't want to buy your ebooks from Amazon, you can buy from hundreds of other e-bookshops instead!
Here's my regularly updated list of over 500 (so far) online shops that sell DRM-free #ebooks, digital comics, magazines, and RPGs.
All legit! All personally checked by me! 💜
Thing is, you do not actually get to "download" books with Kindle; you merely get access to them online.

Oh, just to clarify: you're legally allowed to buy other books and magazines other than ours while on Weightless Books.
This is your pulchritudinous reminder that you can also buy Issue Two via @weightlessbooks.bsky.social to help us AND them keep going.

This is the article I used as a jumping-off point to figure out how to jailbreak my Kindle Keyboard! Now I have KOReader and Amazon can never force me to stop using my old device.
"When my wife's beloved Kindle DX was bricked by obsolescence through no fault of her own, it gave me a frisson of excitement and anticipation to take on Darth Bezos and break open the Kindle so she could once again read her favorite books"

Thank you for being a longtime Kindle customer. We're glad our devices have served you well for as long as they have. Starting May 20, 2026 — 14 to 18 years after their initial launches — we are discontinuing support for Kindle devices released in 2012 or earlier. Here's what this means for you: * You can continue to read books already downloaded on these devices, but you will not be able to purchase, borrow, or download additional books on them after that date. * If you deregister or factory reset these devices, you will not be able to re-register or use these devices in any way. Affected devices include Kindle 1st and 2nd Generation, Kindle DX and DX Graphite, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle 4, Kindle Touch, Kindle 5, and Kindle Paperwhite 1st Generation.
PSA: Amazon is discontinuing all access for pre-2013 Kindles. Books can no longer be sent to those devices at all. Man, fuuuuck Amazon. #Booksky

The sea gives and it takes, its flow constant, its tides relentless.
In ‘The Sea Child’ by Justin Wesley Ferguson in @bcsmagazine.bsky.social, an eerie child haunts a bereft mother with something hard to name: an absent presence, a present absence, an ocean where a person should be.
