Don't Democrats know that they're not supposed to win?

That might be a better example, but Quayle's political future probably ended when GHWB lost in 92.

I'm trying to think of a Republican equivalent and all I can come up with is Jeb's "please clap." Even there Jeb was probably already dead in the water.

First: hilarious.

Second: A core belief of Trump-brand conservativsm is there are and never have been difficult problems, only dumb leaders without the strength to be cruel enough to solve them.

It's why they always look so baffled when pushing the "more cruelty" button doesn't seem to work.

Finally, the military can get over their vaccine obsession they've had since Washington and Valley Forge and get back to being true Warfighters.

I remember being absolutely disheartened that I had to choose between Biden and Sanders by the time Washington held its primary. I voted for Biden just because I thought it was important that Sanders lose decisively to avoid a repeat of 2016.

I'm in this boat. Was against Biden in the primary, viewed him as a stick in the mud. The level of miracles he was able to make happen turned me into more of an optimist about how government can work and how the Democrats can govern. Even now that has not changed.

I had pretty much no expectations legislatively at the start of Biden's Presidency, but the sheer amount of legitimately good legislation that was passed actually made me less cynical in general.

At the risk of playing into gender stereotypes: perhaps they should "man up."

If it doesn't affect us outside of Maine, we would be extremely lucky. Multiple establishment Dems overlooking a Totenkopf
gives the Republicans an easy and valid opportunity to attack us in elections where it might matter.

Not to mention morally we should strive to oppose bigotry as a party.

While every vote may count the same eventually pursuing the antisemite or misogynist vote will start costing us votes with women and Jews. Maybe Platner is able to scrape enough votes to win in Maine (doubtful), but the Democrats are unlikely to benefit overall by becoming openly hostile to Jews.

The radicalisation of the American liberal How US liberalism found the will to fight Trump—and what we can learn from it

whereas the democratic party has, more or less, held everyone on the anti-fascist team together under one umbrella

sounds like faint praise, but i don't think that was guaranteed in advance

The actual divide on this website, much like real life, is between people who are curious about the world and want to understand how it works and people who are very mad that the world doesn’t work the way they want it to

Vote shaming only works if you're ashamed of your vote. As a liberal I can't be vote shamed, because I stand behind my votes with a clear conscience.

The 70s would have been pretty bleak as well. Another 49 state landslide in 72 and barely wining in 76 after Watergate.

While I may not actually call them stupid to their face, I'm certainly thinking it. I will however vote shame them with abandon.

The real question is who will be first Hasan or Cenk.

I suppose replying and immediately blocking is one way to have the last word.

I'm a Democrat and I will do everything in my power to prevent my party from becoming a haven for neo-Nazis, rape apologist, war criminals, and gutter bigots. If Plater is the nominee, we'll deserve to lose.

The term gaslighting is overused, but that could be an example in the dictionary.

People who built their entire personalities around being “against genocide” who then stood aside and allowed a man promising to inflict one on a demographic within the United States to be voted back into the presidency have no grounds to lecture anyone on “hypocrisy.”

I want you all to notice how everyone is glad Hungary voted for the opposition instead of the fascists, and nobody is like “maybe they should’ve let the fascists win again to teach the opposition a lesson”

Because that would be just unfathomably stupid to say

Honestly, we'd be lucky if Platner was only as bad as Fetterman. Fetterman had plenty of red flags before being elected, but Platner seems worse across the board.

Especially since the current GOP coalition is the most crass materialistic group of people ever assembled in human history.
