Who Goes Nazi?, by Dorothy Thompson

Every few months now I re-read this "Who Goes Nazi?" piece from 1941 and am blown away by how it captures the people we are dealing with 80 years later.

In Chicago, We Run Toward Danger Together "Faced with unrelenting state violence, Chicagoans have refused to be cowed," says Mariame Kaba.

My latest is a love letter to Chicago. "I see you stumbling through the stubborn, awkward rhythm of showing up, again and again. I see you fighting alongside people who sometimes frustrate and confuse you, and defending neighbors you may have never met, because you know they’re all your people."

Mapping Community Defense and Care in Our Neighborhoods This worksheet can help us prepare for Trump's military interventions at the neighborhood level.

I know not everyone is who they thought they would be under a fascist, authoritarian regime. That's okay. But it's time to do more than react and post about it. It's time to get organized—including mapping or creating lines of support and defense in your community.

Speaking of, the way that Cosima says,"She's so beautiful," when they meet or find another clone and she truly *sees* each of them, is profoundly beautiful in an unexpected way that stayed with me long afterwards.

There’s no way her fiction is more horrifying than she is in reality. Yikes!

A smiling protester holds a large illustrated sign at a public demonstration in a city square surrounded by tall buildings. The sign features a black-and-white drawing of a man in a suit and hat pointing outward, with bold text that reads: “THEY BLAME IMMIGRANTS SO YOU WON’T BLAME BILLIONAIRES.” The style of the sign resembles vintage political posters. A crowd of fellow demonstrators is visible behind metal barricades in the background.

The people of #LosAngeles have a rich history of protesting this country’s wrongs and supporting fellow Angelenos even across stark differences.

Take 2.5 minutes and appreciate the context for the grassroots movement taint shape, these last 48 hours. #ICE #NationalGuard

I love this picture! Now, I can't get Santana's Migra out of my head. A song for the moment. ¡Pinche migra, dejame en paz!

Me, too! Like, so many intelligent, interesting, vibrant women, with a myriad of talents and gifts and hobbies and careers, who could literally be talking about anything and everything else, yet, actively choose to reduce interactions to this. It makes me sad for them, honestly. 🤔

PS I have three much older sisters and a mom who constantly comment(ed) on my body, whether to objectify, infantilize, shame, whatever. The intense scrutiny, criticism, and judgment are instantly exhausting. Most of the women in my extended family are body critical/shamers. It’s so gross.

For your mom, in particular, it is mind boggling that she can even look at you and not just be so happy that you have survived illnesses that have killed so many and just be grateful that you are still here and recover(ed/ing) enough to even be planning a future. Good Lord.

Also extremely married and have said to the person I absolutely love and adore most on this earth, living or dead, while looking up at our 9ft ceilings, “Now, hear me out, bunk beds…” 👀😅

Sounds compelling! The synopsis is reminding my of Ishiguro and somebody else I can't quite think of at the moment. Pre-ordered, but, for December release?? Omg, I'm gonna die of impatience, lol

Yes! That whole account is gorgeous and very well-curated. Such a balm! Followed for a long time elsewhere. So glad they’re here, too. ☺️

They were set in the US, so def McMansion territory. Altho, I did also read a modernized Jane Eyre that was set in England, and it sounded like a McMansion, but, like, Colin Firth P&P and Downton Abbey exist and show all manner of grand estates. Research takes a few minutes and google is free.

Both descriptions reminded me of WW2 era starter homes or middle-class homes, or, like, double wide trailers? I get they are fantasies, but, have they never seen an Architectural Digest mag at the library or an episode of Cribs or anything? Took me right out of the stories.

Also, this, for economic brackets. I read a couple of "billionaire" romances at the start of the pandemic, where the characters walk into the billionaire's enormous home by, "walking through the front door right into the living room", or, "down a long hallway, right into a living room", like, what?
