myself, would gladly settle for a non-sexy tiger friend
but only a flower: the plant has no leaves, stems or roots!
you could probably do a whole thread on this plant alone, and "the stinking corpse lily" could use better PR
the seeds are so tiny that they're thought to be mostly dispersed by ants
It's 2026. That money has still not hit the bank. Presumably it's a bequest on death but a) $6 million in 1988 is not worth the same in 2026, b) this is a great example of why fundraising for nonprofits is largely smoke and mirrors and we should tax billionaires appropriately.
sadly there will be no wall, just raking it in on some chump lecture circuit
not coming: cash bar
the head of the NKVD before Beria knew the purge was coming, and the wall. he became increasingly drunk and erratic in public, basically helping Stalin shoot him. similar vibes.
normally discovery IS expensive and time consuming, but it's literally what a news org does. plus settling quickly can do them serious reputational damage, which impacts their business, so not really cheaper for them
think more likely as the other person said: they're just kind of dumb
'Marijuana' is the only English word in which the 'j' is silent.
but what possible incentive does the Atlantic have to settle _before_ discovery?
wow, you just made me realize that we do, in fact, have excellent precedent for kash patel as a head of a law enforcement org
Happy 4/20 to all you potheads!
Lots of people genuinely thought that mass incarceration would disappear overnight with the decriminalization of weed. I told y'all it wouldn't.
People believed it would go away because they thought that Black people smoke more weed.
But... white people smoke more🤷🏿♂️
if there's one thing we should have learned from the New Orleans levy collapse during Katrina is that it's far, far cheaper to spend the money ahead of time. but we seem content just reading the articles
@hedgehogsafety.bsky.social : @lazaruslizard.bsky.social for your consideration
And the big cultural push around “big tech reform” is the idea that we’re protecting children from the harms of big tech, when we’re actually giving big tech the very power they seek to destroy the world for all children. And that is no longer hyperbolic when Palantir is announcing it via manifesto
usually technology is first about killing people. even the internet started out as a darpa project, the porn came second
An instagram post from a small business asking customers to oppose new housing in place of a parking lot
The main reason that I am reluctant to get behind rent control for small businesses is that I spent a decade plus as a small business worker, which rid me of the idea that small businesses are more ethical or offer better wages than big business.
The other reason is that they do shit like this.
Picture of the Mien Schiff Relax a 160k ton monster cruiseship that dwarfs it's 90k ton predecessors

this is such a cool looking piece, don't know if i've seen a more life like trilobite
but it kind of boggles the mind that more than twice as much time passed between the last trilobite and the first flower (~130 million years) as between first human and last dinosaur (~60 million)
cubans are great too!
two images of the human body's circulatory system. One of them with good cable management
The human circulatory system, before and after proper cable management.
Prior to that date, I wouldn't say much when people made ignorant jokes about federal employees or went on an anti-government rant when I told them what I did for a living. I just smiled and moved the discussion along. 2/
(my wife approved this skeet)
interesting. in MY house i'm DEFINITELY the one wearing the short pants and cap with bells
One of the reasons I don't love to see "first responders" grouped together is that there were some unbelievable, hyper-competent first responders who saved lives on the day of the bombing but it was largely not police.
seems less effort just to shower
