yeah I hit that like a brick wall with Hollowbody, trying to establish a workflow that sidesteps it this time.
I've tried to keep things as simple as possible, I'm recording body+face mocap directly into Unreal Engine and previewing it on my character meshes, which is great now it's set up and working but a far cry from what you'd expect.
There's a reason why all the demo videos use faceless manequinns :/
yeah I would love it to be more simple but it's a right faff, even just putting on the 12 inertia markers and my janky head rig for face mocap is a lot of effort, then the results are pretty useless without hours and hours of clean-up.
I'm sure with big pockets you can streamline it but 🤷♂️

haha you have no idea the amount of times I've searched for a crunchy post process or render setting that could hide some of the jank but I know for sure whatever I do players will want crisp HD because the art assets aren't low poly enough to fall into the PS1 aesthetic
and all of this is just for some retro 6th gen fidelity visuals, the sort of visuals a casual gamer will just shit on because it's nowhere near the level of AAA stuff they're used to, but I'm putting everything I've got into this just to make it serviceable
The worst bit is that this is the first time I've done anything on this scale of technical challenge, I haven't even proven to myself its possible yet so I'm constantly doubting the process and looking for an easy way out. Mocopi Pro makes a good base but needs SO MUCH cleanup 🥲

this last week I have been streamlining my janky face/body mocap workflow, creating animation control rigs and authoring some lip sync for a test cutscene
It's all terribly complicated and very DIY but looks like I might end up with fairly serviceable cutscenes for my PS2 vibes

I do this too, it takes a lot of iterations for me to finally land on something I am happy with for the character I have in mind
ty! I don't really do anything for dark scenes just let them get darker. I tend to keep my textures quite low contrast which helps
