We’ve cycled around this beautiful area for a couple of days, looking at it looking down at us but this morning Mt Ventoux we are coming for you 😁🚴🎉

Just after sunrise cycling in the Camargue I was treated to this spectacular show. Swallows feeding on the wing in huge numbers gathering for the migration to sub Sahara Africa in a few weeks from now. Made starting at dawn to avoid the heat so worthwhile

Hitting 40 in the afternoon. Had loads of mozzie bites last week in the Dordogne but actually avoiding them here so far !

In the Camargue now & it’s so hot I started my bike ride at 7.30 am. 48 miles round this interesting area. 23 degrees when I left, 33 degrees at 11.15 am when I finished

Thanks for that. Hunting was my initial thought then I wondered why they’d need to be elevated. Obviously they don’t want to give their prey even the slightest chance !!

What is this ??
I’m on a bike ride in the Dordogne and came across this field with five of these wooden structures placed on the edge of the field and equidistant apart .
I just wondered what they were for if any of you know or can hazard a guess?

Another free water source in those Villages that have been there since medieval times. Their only source of water back then is often still working

When at our French Friends’ campsite in the Dordogne I was delighted to see a big jug of good old British Custard - in anticipation of the Apple Crumble it turns out it was a candle 😂😫

Luckily it passed over in a hour an we’re just left with puddles 😁

On today’s ride. I was looking forward to seeing a castle in the shape of a giant Camembert but sadly it’s just the name of the village

A tip for anyone cycling in hot weather in rural parts of Europe, if you’re running low on water. Many small villages have their own Cemetery and there’s always a cold water tap 👍 Got me out of trouble in France today 😁🚴 Campsites also but these Cemeteries are numerous.

Cycling in rural France is good for the soul. Roads usually devoid of cars , spectacular Chateux, Sunflower fields, sleepy villages and lovely old buildings adorned with flowers. Definitely one of my favourite kinds of terrain to ride my bike 🚴☀️😁

I was pulled out by St Johns Ambulance staff at the last feed station, close to hypothermia, was gutted, then sat watching those Devil riders turning up for a quick warm indoors and then kicking off when they heard it had been stopped . 60 miles of lovely but challenging riding then that grim hell !

FEEL THE FREEDOM OF ADVENTURE ON YOUR BIKE

A little reminder here that we are all capable of more than we may think. The spirit of adventure can be intoxicating so don't let the likes of Bear Grylls hijack the word - Adventure is what you make it, so why not define adventure for yourself and enjoy the ride !! 🚴‍♂️ ❤️ 😁

Yea I get that but rides like this one are a chance to ride with pals I met on LEJOG and live far and wide so that trumps the shitty weather 😁👍

Cycling keeps me young in mind & body & “young at heart” especially when a lot of it is done with inspirational older riders like Eric here today who’s 87 in August & still rides 100 road miles every week Such a pleasure & an honour to share my hobby with people like Eric 🚴😁

That’s a very good point ! I wasn’t actually advocating for the practice 😁👍

To be fair, it also applies to cyclists passing pedestrians but would be a useful exercise for some of the car drivers who have close passed me recently

Thinking of doing the UK Velo New Forest 100 Sportive on 7th June & waiting til near the date to check the weather forecast I guess I should book it regardless but if the forecast suggests likelihood of rain all day I just wouldn’t want to do it ?
Thoughts?
Pathetic or Sensible ?

Definitely found that out 😂

Yes it was very reminiscent of riding through those fens on the Tour of Cambridgeshire 😁

Had my own taste of Flanders yesterday on the Flandrien Ride starting and finishing in Breda. I thought no hills = easy but of course it also means no downhill so pedalling and it was VERY windy so renewed respect for Dutch Cycling !!

Great Sunday cycling in the Netherlands. Always thought it must be easy as it’s flat but the wind howled , no hills means no downhill so always pedalling. Flat cycling for almost 100 miles I’ve discovered is NOT easy !

This is what Cycling to be “at one with nature” looks like these days. Totally sick and tired of seeing this, what the hell is wrong with these ignorant selfish people? A discarded bed & just one mile away from the Recycling Centre
Is it just the UK ? Does this happen elsewhere ?

Me too and I succeeded 😊
