That's unfortunate. I'm sure that's hard for you.
Do you think that framing your response in a format resembling "not all men" is an effective way to make your point? Without an awful lot of context, it struck me as more of a way to attempt to diminish a valid point someone else was making.

I'm very sorry that happened to you. I'm sure it's been hard to deal with.
When someone says "men can't understand this" do you believe they mean that no men at all can understand that, or that men overall don't get it?
"men can’t understand what it’s like for women to see story after story after story of women being victims of sexual violence"
Sexual violence is right there in the first post you're replying to.
Do you think that men, overall, understand the threat of sexual violence the way women do?
I don't remember the men in John Wick being victims of sexual violence. Am I forgetting some?

For the next 60 minutes, tell us a film or filmmaker you love and we'll suggest something for you to watch on the Criterion Channel.

At the end of 2007, Rudy Giuliani was the frontrunner for the nomination. He dropped out a month later
Good stuff and I managed to go in thinking vaguely that this was going to be a magical realist story.
Yup. I remember when the matchup looked certain to be Clinton vs Giuliani.
I buy that Harris and Newsom are the current Democratic frontrunners, but I remember when Hillary Clinton was the frontrunner back in 2006.
The election isn't today, this month, or even this year. Frontrunners might stay in front ... but they might not.
Been a while since I shared my #LastFourWatched on main (by which I mean Bluesky) so what the heck.
It’s nice to know so far in advance what will surely be sci-fi/alien invasion cinema of the 2030s’ most frequently exploded object.
Are any of the namers I know up for having me bounce a naming idea off of you?
I've got one I like for a new film society and want some human feedback.
Step one for making a good stock, I guess
There's a nostalgia for the 80's/90's monoculture among people my age and I think maybe we forget just how much of those shared cultural reference points that bonded us together were from shitty television commercials that aired ad nauseum.
TIL two Chinook Jargon words for "movie": Southern dialiect says "nanich-yaʔim," Northern dialect uses "mashik lantirn."
The internet can still turn up delights if you poke at it the right way.
Yeah, I skipped last week, but this week I'll be sending part 2 of how meditation made me a better movie watcher. By making me appreciate boredom, among other things.

(fake) Tom Scott video thumbnail featuring 1973's The Wicker Man. "Can this ritual bring their apples back?" I will be blocking anyone who makes an "oh god the bees" reference, that is a different movie not worthy of discussion.
"The Scottish island of Summerisle, home of the best fruit in Britain. The first thing you notice? No churches. The farmers here practice a fascinating form of pre-Christian worship…and I just learned I'll be playing the lead role in their annual May Day festival. First stop: my costume fitting."
This would not surprise me, but it’s still sad that he got killed before we could find out exactly what kind of crank he’d become.
a tweet from @/ThefirstJonk on 2/19/25 that reads: "Oh so no death cab for ugly? Ugly has to walk?"
got a much needed long laugh from this
Another Valmont suggestion: Daniel Brühl.
Yeah, I could see that. Farrell is strongest when that self-loathing is in play. (I think he'd have been fantastic in Killers of the Flower Moon because of that.)
(checks to see if he's been mentioned) perhaps Colin Farrell?
