We have asked Republicans for 10 years to ban partisan gerrymandering. And for 10 years, Republicans have said no.

What they’re just mad at is that they have been accustomed to a Democratic Party that rolls over.

For all the GOP’s decades of minimizing government, the current regime has worked constantly to entrench government power over citizens. This year, we need to push back and reclaim OUR power. And there is no time to waste.

Voters hold power. While gerrymandering works to minimize the accountability of elected officials, it cannot eliminate it. We need phone banks, door knocking, postcards, and real conversations in our communities about how to engage and empower each other.

Ultimately, though, lawmakers are drawing these districts based on math and past results. With large-scale disapproval of Trump’s agenda, the biggest goal for the midterms should be responding to moving boundaries by reaching people through human contact.

Last year, the President, concerned that playing by the rules would hurt his power over the people, pushed Texas to an off-cycle gerrymander. The state and fed regimes fought for and won the right to racially gerrymander for partisan gain. (Thread)

Cookies I baked for the writing club’s last meeting of the year: triple chocolate with salted caramel topping, triple chocolate-covered cherry, and gluten free chocolate chip.

Another year of writing club came to a close with today’s meeting. I’ll miss the kids this summer, and the lone senior making her way toward a world I believe she will move toward a better place. But today was about a celebration of the year that was. With cookies, of course.

Democrats did not want to do any mid-decade redistricting. It was Trump who started it in June 2025 with a phone call to Greg Abbott after more special election losses. Dems warned they’d respond. But Texas did it anyway - without the consent of the voters. Then Dems responded.

Ossoff: "You were talking earlier about Jared Kushner. The guy leading our diplomacy in the Middle East is bringing in billions from Middle Eastern princes and sheiks and going around the region asking for billions more while he conducts nuclear diplomacy on behalf of the country. It's obscene."
