I'm off to build an airlock for my shed - keeps me busy, and helps insulate it better for next year!
it's gray and wet, I'm stuck 9 hours a day in a shed with no human contact, in a body which feels both too hot and too cold. I wish I could just sleep through winter and emerge when it's not so shit.
...but I have major depressive disorder, so maybe it's just me and I should just get on with it.

I'll build a basic one again tomorrow and see if I can get Codex to add some improvements in my own coding style.
I read A.M. Low's Adrift In The Stratosphere (1937) so you don't have to.

retitled my book to "The Paths Most Travelled"
it refers to quantum immortality survival involving following the most probable non-fatal paths in a branching timeline.
sounds complex, but that's why there's a whole book, and not just a post.

great book. each scene is easy to read and you can just *feel* the atmosphere.
Ireland here. You are unfortunately correct.

I need to do some revision on it to tighten things up, but I think we're nearing the end now.

3 hours diagnosing why @bronwyn-verens.bsky.social 's laptop was offline. a CAT6 cable, opposite end of the house, had rotted because a mis-placed screw had destroyed the sheathing on a single wire in the cable. that cable worked fine for ten years. pictured: tools it took to find and fix this...
spent all day installing Linux (Fedora 43) on three ancient laptops. it took that long because I couldn't find my USB sticks so was resorting to SD cards + adaptors, which are notoriously unreliable...
eventually found a stick, and everything was much easier after that.
now: networking, then Ceph

Ireland here. we're on our third. have to say, it's nice not to have an insane rapist as a president. you should try it.
