And there’s not that many nonhumans in “Andor” but Cassian is marked by his “Kenari” accent in that show. (We do get reference to an offscreen nonhuman genocide)

Also one thing that’s kind of interesting in the evolution of SW fiction is that it used to emphasize imperial genocide of nonhumans specifically and now we’re just as likely to see them oppress any marginalized cultures, whether they are human or not. We see Mando “marked” more than Quarren etc.

Doubt there will ever be an upper limit established but I’m struck by how the K-X “security droids” were direct agents of genocide on Ghorman AND on Mandalore. Nice use of fascist euphemism in fiction.

Which really just perpetuates the immense harm that Infowars specifically and the bullshit industry in general has wreaked on humanity.

This is like the Sports Betting of “cute Bluesky discourse of the day l o l”

I do not like this thread because everybody, including the OP, is posting a toxic, frothy mix of “things that are probably true but cannot be officially confirmed for clear, comprehensible reasons” and “stupid bullshit that is either directly or indirectly harmful.”

It’s worth talking about how the Democratic Party has spawned Current Notable GOP/MAGA/fascists like Donald J. Trump, J.D. Vance, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Elon Musk, and now Alan Dershowitz.

When your tent is spawning your mortal enemies, perhaps it is too big.

It is probably both correct and useful to frame the Democratic defeats of 2016 and 2024 as such—Trump was a tipping point due to his crossover appeal, but driving it was Democrats’ political weakness after a poor record in power.

The Columbine massacre was on this date in 1999. Instead of energizing our country to get gun violence under control, it kicked off a new normal. One of the best explanations ever of journalism's destructive impact on mass shootings came from Roger Ebert in his review of Gus Van Sant’s “Elephant.”

It’s such a compelling core idea that Roberts essentially re-ran it for Eugenesis. And I actually like the Soundwave stuff. But the Arcee shit is YIKES

Wrapping up with The Disaster Bis in charge of THEE USS Enterprise rewired my brain in ways I’ve heretofore only read about in laudatory nostalgic tomes about how TOS healed the world or whatever.

I’m married to a bisexual woman and Shit Matters

It’s all execution. Nearly anything can be done well.

I think if I read a synopsis of PIC S3 on paper I WOULD hate it, but it’s shot well, performed well, and buttons up a lot of story that was just left out to dry by the petering-out of the Berman era.

This is a remarkable and important step.

Ukraine, a country under full scale invasion for 4+ years, is signing deals to co-develop/produce weapons with other countries.

Saudi, UAE and Qatar are not only confident of but also banking on Ukraine being a functional nation state over the next decade.

I mean, just in contrast, in the earlier THE TERMINATOR, which borrows the slasher formula, the guy who singlehanded destroys a police station uses a vehicle and two longarms, actually is an indestructible robot, and still takes visible damage.

I think this is where the original series really started writing itself into a corner. Since they were the “normal” slasher series after FRIDAY and NIGHTMARE, they felt like they had to Explain everything

In response, KILLS waves it in our face “he’s indestructible because FUCK YOU that’s why!”

As part of its extended meta-riff on the early Halloween sequels, HALLOWEEN KILLS makes even more out of this

In fact, Harris!Brackett is that Myers’ last kill before his Mutual Kill with Loomis. So extending her role makes her a secondary anchor for Zombie’s duology.

Un/fortunately, Brackett is brutally killed by Myers in HALLOWEEN II (2009), so Harris got to do a dramatic death scene (really, two after narrowly surviving in 2007) after the indignity of being recast for her iconic character’s first-act death in HALLOWEEN 6.

As to your point, Spirit Halloween respects no laws of decency, man, or God

Supposedly it’s intentionally a different mask (and the original mask wasn’t “supposed” to be on the poster)

Is this ass-covering after the backlash to one of the series’ ugliest masks? Hard to say!!

No one had a bad word to say about him in the oral history. Everyone on set was just in awe of him and wanted to help him have a good experience. In return he was incredibly sweet to the young actors and worked well with the directors.

Pointing this out cause that’s not, uh, every older Brit actor.

One of my favorite things Zombie did was cast Harris as Annie Brackett, so EVERY entry in the Halloween series except 6 features Curtis or Harris. (Curtis has a vocal cameo in III).

1 day ago 1 0 1 0

This is really foundational for the broader series. Not only does it create the structure for Myers to keep going, it’s recognizably the formula for H20, HALLOWEEN (2007), and HALLOWEEN (2018).

As such it’s…basically fine??

I will go to my grave thinking that at least for awhile, Gene was holding open the door for a “Jean-Luc’s the real dad” reveal.

Eventually the characters got to have their cake and eat it too, there.

In the long run it was probably good for Worf that he kept his dignity here. He’d need to claw for every inch of it when he became the writers’ punching bag approximately immediately after Yar’s death.

Oddly, in what is either a (rare) oversight or a deliberate retcon, the original airing depicted the refit 1701 on the screen.

This was ultimately “corrected” in HD.

Ironically, since DIS S2 it’s been unclear exactly which of two irreconcilable designs does represent the pre-refit Constitution 😃

Like, I’ll talk about The Berman Era in a broadly positive way, and I’ll be honest about what I feel were his positive and negative impacts, but he’s a suck-ass human. As was, often, Roddenberry himself. But Roddenberry did BUILD, not merely MAINTAIN.
