Form:
Tough 18 months since leaving Elfsborg, if Thelin can help him find his previous form, he could be a big player for Aberdeen in the second half of the season (and longer with option to buy), but it could take time with not having much football as of late.
Not necessarily a weakness, but Progressive passes: (3.79), below average. This shows he’s not the one to receive deep and play a splitting pass. He’s the one wanting to get on the end of things and make things happen in the final third. Take that how you want.
Weaknesses:.
Tackles & Defensive Actions (4.72adjusted per 90): Below-average contribution to defensive actions, is a surprise considering Thelin wingers should acrually be winning the ball
Physical:
Strong in the air, 38.89% pits him in the excellent category, and this is a boost for Aberdeen who are a bit weak in this regard.
Fast and powerful runner, long strides but also the ability to shrug a defender off.
Short & Medium Pass 88.67% Excellent passing accuracy in short and medium-range passes, indicating strong link-up play and ball retention.
Passing:
Per 90mins Numbers regarding final ball are superb.
1.49 shot assists
0.37 assists
0.31 xA
All above average for the league. This shows he’s calm in the final third, can pick the correct option with the correct weight. 30.16% cross completion is average, not a weak.
Strengths
Dribbling: Success rate of 58.95%. Above-average ability to beat opponents in one-on-one dribbling situations
Progressive Carries (3.92) Shows effectiveness in ball carrying Especially effective in attacking transitions. Ability to go both ways = unpredictable.
6ft, tall for a winger, but he’s not slow. Will look consistently to test that back line and get in behind. Comparison wise a player I see similarities, Funnily, hugely similar to N.Kühn when at Rapid Wien, Can also see Hudson-Odoi / Kuluveski build / movement.
11Goals and 6 assists in 30 games.
18 games on the left
16 games on the right
Capable of playing both sides, comfortable with both feet, unpredictable in the sense he can drift inside or beating his man on the outside.
Difficult to take much from his time at Utrecht as he only made 5 appearances before being sold to Preston for more than double what Utrecht paid. Due to this, we’re going to have to base this off his 2022 season at Elfsborg… under Jimmy Thelin 😏
A strange 18 months for Jepp Okkels since leaving Elfsborg.
Sold to Utrecht for 700k, then 8months later to Preston for 2mil.
Preston don’t use traditional wingers, this signing never made sense. Currently play 3-4-2-1.
Loan with option to buy, suits all parties.
Jepp Okkels.
Aberdeen on loan with option to buy.
The low down ⬇️
Baller
With Aberdeens 3 strikers having a combined 6 goals in 18 games, It’s an obvious area that needs improved and one of the easiest upgrades to make to the XI.
Below are two suggestions who I think fit Aberdeens model and Jimmy Thelin’s playing style ⬇️⬇️
Cvetković’s combination of technique, movement, and work rate make him an ideal fit for possession-based systems that emphasises high pressing and off-ball intelligence. His ability to receive progressive passes and execute sharp combinations is well-suited to modern forward role
3. Creativity
Ability to create chances is less developed. His Expected Assists (0.04) and Goal-Creating Actions (3.59) rankings indicate that he rarely provides quality final balls. Improving his vision and execution in the final third will help round out his attacking profile.
2. Finishing
Cvetković’s finishing needs work. Missing 8 big chances this season, his composure in front of goal is a work in progress. An average Goals/Shot on Target (0.41) highlights the need for better conversion, but his youth and scoring record suggest improvement with time
Weaknesses
1. Aerial
Cvetković struggles in aerial duels, ranking poorly in Aerial Win % (23.91). This stems from a combination of his height (1.75m) and poor body positioning. Developing greater anticipation and strength in aerial challenges would improve his effectiveness
4. Positioning
Cvetković shows an instinctive ability to get into high-quality positions, as reflected by his npxG per 90 (0.42) and npxG per shot (0.19) percentiles. Highlights intelligence in anticipating opportunities and efficient shots, even if finishing requires polishing.
3. Technical
Cvetković is equally adept with both feet, allowing him to operate unpredictably in tight spaces and adjust quickly in shooting or passing situations. His strong Short & Medium Pass Completion (78.48) further emphasises his technical reliability in combination play.
Out of possession, he is relentless in his defensive work, pressing defenders aggressively, as reflected in his above-average Defensive Actions per 90 (21.31) percentile. This intensity and tactical awareness make him a valuable asset in systems reliant on high pressing.
2. Movement
Off-the-ball movement is where Cvetković really impresses. In possession, he makes purposeful runs in behind defenders, into the channels, or short to feet, creating constant dilemmas for the opposition.
Progressive Passes Received (77.78) and Smart Passes (60.00) percentiles underline his effectiveness in linking up play in advanced areas. His touch is assured, and excellent awareness to create separation from defenders, drawing fouls and maintaining possession in tight spaces.
Strengths
1. Link-Up Play
ability to play with his back to goal is a defining feature of his game. He is comfortable under pressure, using his physicality and balance to shield the ball and execute bounce passes with precision.
Mihajlo Cvetković is enjoying a breakout season in the Serbian Super Liga, demonstrating immense potential for his age. After excelling at youth level, his performances in senior football suggest he could soon attract attention from higher-tier clubs.
Scout report:
Mihajlo Cvetković
• Position: Striker / CF
• Nationality: 🇷🇸
• Age: 17
• Current Team: FK Čukarički
• Height: 1.75m
• Market Value: €1m-€1.5m
Note:
Virslīga clubs in 2025 will now have to pay €8000 to register a foreign player for the year. Obviously clubs with multiple foreign players, that can add up quick. Interested to see if that will make clubs more willing to sell /less likely to sign foreigners
Weaknesses
• Discipline: His 8 yellow cards in 28 matches highlight an issue with discipline, which is further supported by past red cards. This needs addressing to ensure reliability.
Conservative: He often opts for safe, backward passes rather than more progressive options.
