I feel sick to my stomach waiting around to see what atrocity Trump has in mind for the people of Iran this evening. It's hard to fathom our other elected leaders aren't able to check him in any meaningful way. It's an indictment not just of voters but of our whole system. We're ruled by a mad king.

As a black person who was working in a newsroom, I will forever nurse my rage about watching white coworkers chuckle at Trump’s birther press conferences. From the jump, he was “asking” for President Obama’s walking papers. A direct line current police and violence. It was never a joke or gimmick.

Incredibly funny that the president of the United States can do this and retain command of the American Armed Forces, but I said it about a literal Nazi and got fired from a job writing superhero comics.

Was hearing a weird amount of pop culture critics throwing shade on Sinners this past week, but I have to say, after hearing Ryan Coogler lifting up educators & saying he's honoured by professors who might teach his work, if you still don't understand why people dig this man, you're choosing not to.

THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!

What the genocide in Gaza reinforced is that there are no "civilians" when it comes to Israel and the United States. The rest of the world learned the same lesson and the consequences are going to be felt across the world.

The cartoon doll from the nickolodeon show, Rugrats. She is blond and missing massive pieces of hair from her head, probably because she’s been played with too hard.

A lesson about networks that I’m kind of proud of: at the beginning of the year, I gave my 200 students a dumb survey: fav books, foods, etc. I told them they could use pseudonyms and that I’d share their responses with the class. We’ve been using that data in various ways: to make points about +

"Is there a technology the left is excited about?"

Let's see, off the top of my head:

- libraries
- solar power
- community-owned, community-run [noun], for example
• power grids
• communications networks
- e-bikes
- voting by mail
- vaccinations
- affordable health care

Notice any patterns?

A small but very deep thing that bothers me about generative AI as a shortcut to practice and work and skill is the basic assumption that it’s impossible to take pleasure in a creative pursuit that you aren’t very good at and I assure you that is not the case

my anger is still directed where it belongs, but I’m getting at least increasingly irritated that outlets like Status reporting extensively on the layoffs aren’t even bothering to note that the Post apparently fired every single one of of its remaining arts critics

Apparently, Google Books deliberately removed search for previewed books??

For ANYONE doing research, this is a BIG deal.

Not to be able to search for specific things that you need? For books that will help? For references used by other authors?

My last book would have been impossible without it.
