This is a fundamental reason why universities are in crisis in the UK as well as Australia
Funnelling money to private consultants which gives them pointless terrible 'advice', deepening crisis and 'dependency' on consultants

'One of the recommendations in Verdant’s first report is to slash spending by government on management consultants like McKinsey. We present evidence of excessive spend over many years.'

South West Water admits criminal offence over Devon parasite outbreak.
Water unfit for human consumption, 150 people fell ill.
SWW already has nearly 200 criminal convictions. Licence not cancelled, no exec prosecuted, record high customer bills, sewage dumped in rivers.
Privatisation is a scam.
As journalists working today many of us are taught to recognise disinformation when we see it and fight back against it.
Unfortunately there are some who willingly seek it out and put it on their front pages. A disgrace to the profession.
What’s that popular definition of insanity again?
Struck by how Hannah Spencer's brilliant victory speech is a broadside against neoliberal meritocracy – like so many other (esp. female working-class) voices right now. This is exactly what Bev Skeggs & I discuss in our new article, 'Social Mobility is a Joke':

Brilliant speech!
The level of dirt thrown against Zack Polanski and Hannah Spencer this week from the Gutter Press and from Labour/Reform was unbelievable.
And for what crime? Just wanting to make Britain a better place to live.
But in the end it did not work. Shows there is still hope in this world
I'm so glad I don't have to live in a world where Matt Goodwin is an MP
Fantastic interview with Jilly Kay about her recent research into reactionary feminisms. And yes, these weird new kinds of right-wing anti-politics really are, of a kind, 'feminisms'. Check it out here or search for culture, power, politics in any app: culturepowerpolitics.org/2026/02/23/r...
New article:
In 'Social Mobility is a Joke: Working-class women & British TV comedy on the social floor’ in @ejcs-journal.bsky.social, @jolittler.bsky.social & Bev Skeggs analyse female TV writers who reject bourgeoise narratives of respectability & meritocracy:

The Epstein scandal should have prompted political action to abolish billionaires.
This case reveals something deeply wrong and sick about power and money. That there is no political movement to eliminate this class of hyper powerful oligarchs speaks volumes.
A decent society cannot afford this

So… big news.

I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people.
But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.
They’re taking kids from Minnesota and sending them to detention camps. They’re shooting American citizens in the street and locking investigators out of the crime scenes. The world is watching what happens next.
"ICE will leave Minnesota if you hand over your voter rolls" tells you everything you need to know.
This was never about immigration or fraud. It was always about rigging elections.

Looking forward to talking to John Clarke about The Battle for Britain! This is the book I’ve quoted more than any others over the past 2 years. Reviewed it for Soundings here too, p101 journals.lwbooks.co.uk/soundings/vo...
Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics
