Mastodon is a decentralised social media platform run by nerds not billionaires. Everyone can run their own server or sign up on one. Each server can have its own moderation policy and users can migrate between these servers. It should be impossible for some rich bastard to buy the whole thing

Great. I only have a test account on pixelfed so far (and the official app seems to lack some polish). The Mastodon server I’m on announced it’s shutting down in a few months, so I’m gonna have to decide on a different one before registering a real account on pixelfed

Yeah, that’s the tricky part. I prefer the idea of a community owned platform, but if the point is to reach an audience, engagement is gonna be key…
