STOP COP CITY!
SMALL PROTEST DEFIES POLICE INTIMIDATION

Last night, up to 100 of us gathered for police abolition near southern cross station despite cop intimidation.
The protest came from networks after the police repression of the April 26 trans liberation counter.
We heard speakers connect across struggles why we need to abolish police before we took to the streets.
From anti-colonial struggle here to Palestine, migrant sex worker organising, against the drug war, anti-racism, trans lib and class war. ACAB. Abolish police and prisons.

PRE-EMPTIVE VIOLENT POLICING

Cops deploying their intensified violent ‘designated’ area laws intimidated many of us. First, it along with corporate media flak, reduced our numbers. Second, it meant many of us were harassed initially until we formed a crowd.
Policing = violent racism, transmisogyny and ableism. Many were forced to remove their covid-safe masks. It showed who they deemed ‘suspicious’. It’s no accident a trans woman of colour was brutally arrested at the trans lib counter. It’s no accident a trans woman was assaulted and detained by cops at the abolition rally.

RESISTANCE AND WHAT’S NEXT?
Violent policing is the fault of the police, not us! We resisted this fucked policing and media flak together. We had each other’s backs during the absurd search harassment and intimidation. We intervened when the corporate media shoved their cameras in to film invasive searches by the cops. We had mutual care, street theatre, medics and legal support.
Cops are getting more draconian power and we need to learn and adapt as they intensify their violence. As capitalist profit falls, states like ‘vic’ are expanding anti-Black police and prisons at record rates to manage populations.
Cops around the world are trained to fear a general insurgency against them. They see class struggle and autonomy from below against this whole rotten settler colony as a threat. It’s up to us to fight in solidarity for that!

How a Tiny Crab Museum in the UK Stood Up For Trans Rights Leaning on its expertise in biology, the museum said that “there are no binaries in nature” and called the recent anti-trans ruling “an abuse of science.”

"the team [also] uses crabs as a springboard for larger conversations about the ecosystem and the impacts of capitalism, as well as the legacy of colonialism".
i love crabs and i love the crab museum

Love to see these initiatives. Profs whose courses have been canceled by universities bowing to the Feds, starting their own courses. People of a certain age may recall the 70s, under Reagan, Thatcher, Mulroney and Pinochet, when free universities became a resistance thing. History is never linear.

in the wake of last Thursday's tragic shooting of a Somali man experiencing a mental health crisis outside the Coles supermarket on Albert Street at 9pm,Ms Ubbah known throughout footscray as the "Queen Mother of Africa on Nicholson Street standing for all young men and women affected by substance abuse, mental health, homelessness", is once again raising her voice against police brutality. a successful Somali businesswoman and devoted mother of 9, she has repeatedly risked her own safety to shield young African men from excessive force. today she demands accountability and an end to the heavy-handed tactics that have claimed too many lives. "the killing of our children must stop. police officers must be held responsible for shooting a mentally unwell man in our neighbourhood".
she invites the footscray community to stand with her in solidarity at a rally on Tuesday, Nicholson Street, to call for genuine reform in policing and justice for all victims of unnecessary force.
