I also think the traits of a good politician (outside of "agrees with me on policy") are totally orthogonal to these indicators of upbringing and class - I have a working-class background and a policy PhD, but I would be a bad elected official because I'm overly-emotional and, honestly, kind of mean
The real rub is, what qualifies this guy to be a Senator? Even if I say "Okay, I'll forgive these 9000 red flags and missteps" - do you have an affirmative case besides "I am reading the lines the DC consultants behind my campaign have written for me"?
Platner and I are in the same generation. My reddit history is mostly r/badeconomics glory days (I guess I'm a little embarrassed by an R5 on moral hazard that is overly simplistic to me now) and World of Warcraft discussion and does not contain any slurs or racial stereotypes!
One of my beefs with Platner is the blue collar, working class thing is totally stolen valor AND he is definitely using it as a get out of jail free card.
Neither of my parents went to college, my dad dropped out of 10th grade. I never thought it'd be fun to be a mercenary to kill people!
it is wild how good the instagram algorithm is predicting what you want to see. mine is entirely vizsla content, every day:
Currently experiencing moving purgatory: enough stuff is packed to make living in my home frustrating, but not enough is packed to feel ready to actually move on Friday.
I love it but it’s a bit of a millennial white guy self-indulgent self-pity anthem so that tracks.
I don't know if YHF is my favorite album of all-time, but it may be the most consistently great from start to finish.
there should be only one app in the app store and its snake.
surely, given how the media covered inflation during times of strong real wage growth from 2021 - 2024, this will engender wall-to-wall, non-stop criticism of the trump administration.
Possibly! The identification strategy is almost always across TV market borders based on where the patient lives, but some spillover likely to physicians. That said, especially on anti-depressants, the pathway of patient awareness seems most sensible - you don’t get SSRIs unless you ask for them!
The evidence on DTC pharma ads is that they mostly have modest effects but somewhat increase patient awareness of helpful drugs - which is good ideas.repec.org/a/aea/aejmic... & academic.oup.com/restud/artic...
GO BLUE BABYYYYYYYY
Correct.
That said - I'm guessing it'll take a while for workflow adaptations to fully realize time savings. This was true in our work on human scribes, and AI scribes are much newer - very few clinicians in our sample had them for more than 3-6 months in this analysis jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
Epic Signal measures "active time" VERY conservatively (no keystrokes/mouse movement for 5 seconds stops the count), but for clinicians using the scribe for >50% of encounters its about 30 minutes per day in reduced documentation time - caveat that adopters had higher documentation time pre-scribe!
Difference in differences event study graph showing the effect of AI scribe adoption on various EHR use outcomes
I've gotten really bad at posting my papers, but new study out today in JAMA co-led with Lisa Rotenstein: our multi-site evaluation of AI scribes on clinician EHR time. Anyway here's the graph you want to see jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
The ancient texts are being lost. Kids must defeat me at Super Smash Bros: Melee otherwise they have to open the HTML editor to put me in their myspace top 8. These are FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS.
Excited to see this piece with @michaelannica.bsky.social and @rachelsachs.bsky.social out
We looked at the Rural Health Transformation Program: Its funding formula had a clear small-state bias; we ask whether its scoring methodology also perhaps favored red states

We need to stop prioritizing parking lots over people.
Today, I assembled a roundtable to discuss our Building Up Illinois Developments Plan — and the consensus was that we need to act fast.
Looking forward to passing it and getting to work in our neighborhoods.
omg same. I got my first copy of Lord of the Rings in 4th grade and fancied myself far above Harry Potter.
Pre-approval jumbo rate quote at 6.0% in February, locked at 6.5% this week 🙃
The greatest possible gift ‘leftists’ could give to liberalism is to make ‘neoliberal hellscape’ and ‘place we don’t tolerate racism’ synonyms
With multi-year funding reducing new awards for the next few years at least (I assume), I'm really worried about Assistant Profs in year 2-3 who are going to be fighting a real uphill battle to get the first R01 before they hit their 5/6 year clock.
Whats crazy is this isn't even SF, its Chicago! 👀

buying a house in 2026: 12 minutes between scheduling tour and the house being sold to another buyer
Even Chicago real estate has gone insane this spring - lost a bid on a house in Avondale listed at $975k to someone who bid $250k over asking. As someone actively hunting in Chicago for a 4bed+ SFH with a $1.2M budget, we're feeling priced out of L-accessible west/northwest-side areas.
claude, buy me a house within budget. make no mistakes.
The Ohio State University is expected to close ranks and replace him with his hard-line son, further straining an already highly volatile situation in a region that has seen constant conflict over the past several decades
