BEFORE you spend your money on your production shoot. Once your directors/producers (ie you) are happy with the message, you can proceed. Will your video ad work and drive new sales to your product? Maybe, maybe not. But the point of boarding and pre-vis shoots are to SEE it before you commit.
20-year marketing veteran (video production) here. Your storyboards and 'half-ass videos' are not meant for market research to show to an audience. They are meant for YOU. Does the concept work? Should we cut this shot? Should we change the message? Those tools are for you to find your message...
