“The Hardest Part of History to Tell Is How It Felt” - defector.com/the-hardest-.... Terrific article. And yes, I’m just going to have to read this book. #CraigFehrman #Lewis&Clark #historiography

To all my fellow Eastern and Oriental Orthodox sisters and brothers throughout the world: CHRIST IS RISEN!
“Now all is filled with light:
heaven and earth and the lower regions.
Let all creation celebrate the rising of Christ!”

Agreed!
Another great historian exposes the human complexity at the heart of slavery that we have long failed to see. Melvin Patrick Ely’s brilliant, haunting new book should be read by every American. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/11/b...
I agree completely! I’ve been feeling the same way.
Rewilding farmland, soon after the trees spring up unplanted, a host of wildflowers and other ground flora move in, like this wood sorrel. Then come the insects, followed by birds and other animals.
It's all just so beautiful, and so *hopeful*.
Two local Coast Miwok students will be studying this summer at the Breath of Life Institute for Indigenous California Languages, a special program for communities with few or no speakers through Advocates for Indigenous California Language Survival (AICLS). Link here to help cover their costs.
Trump admin.: no medical aid for African countries unless the U.S. gets something we want in return. Confirmation that as an international actor, the U.S. now has no morals, no mercy, and no shame. wapo.st/41Ld5T8

Chag same’ach to all who are beginning the holy time of Pesach tonight. God grant that the year ahead see a new dawn of peace, healing, and reconciliation for all the peoples of Israel and Palestine.
I love that that there’s a Canadian astronaut on this flight, too! I hope Canadians know how much our bonds still mean to the vast majority of Americans (USians?). #Canada
They are fully merited! Thank you for your work.
Godspeed, Artemis! Proof that U.S. technology and science can still do beautiful, awe-inspiring things.
Oh, yes! Now I see it! What an amazing shot!
When a great scholar of history and of human nature meets a subject whose stature and complexity are worthy of her talents, landmark books such as this are the result.
These are lovely. The shot with the lighthouse, particularly. Exquisite!
I love this. Thank you, lovely Tulip!🩷🌷💚

It’s a great start!

“… led by a corgi…”: This one’s for you, @agordonreed.bsky.social — or rather, for Daisy, who surely wouldn’t find it at all surprising.
I am leaving the Washington Post to join a new journalistic venture backed by Politico founder Robert Allbritton that will be both the hometown publication the D.C. region sorely needs and a scrappy and fearless national news organization. I hope you'll join us.
“Sinners” should have won Best Picture. Yes (spoiler alert) it wasn’t perfect—the climactic violence went on too long, and I’m dismayed that it featured vampires (= European) instead of drawing on the riches of African American folklore—but it was a gorgeous feat of imagination & deserved to win.
This cracks me up every time. Thanks, Annette!
